Thoughts about Little River or Ukiah for $500 hamburger?

And, of course, I have no idea the status of any of the restaurants during the pandemic. How about this as a paint job? Took this last time I was at LLR (2017).

Thoughts about Little River or Ukiah for $500 hamburger?

Little River is close to the village of Mendocino, which has restaurants and shops. But you need a way into town. FBOs and car rental places come and go over the years, but I believe Air-Galore is still there and rents cars. Last time I was there was probably 2 years ago. Ukiah has several...

    You’re “oops” moment aviation?

Mine was similar. Short private airport with hill on final. I was a bit too high so decided to do a go-around. Just before I powered up, apparently I said —“we’re not going to make it”.:(:(:( No screaming. She just got real quite.

    You’re “oops” moment aviation?

My pre-flight checklist does not say”load overnight bag into plane”. Bummer that there is a photographic record of my oops.

    Interesting runway markings

Anyone been to Death Valley/Furnace Creek lately?

I wouldn’t say it is in “good” condition- more like “OK” condition. But it should not scare anyone off. Go. Spend the night. Take a photo at Zabriskie point at dawn.

Cross Country Help - Florida to California

If you need to stop for weather, pick a good place to possibly spend the night if you have to, which might be the airport you just passed 10 minutes ago, not the one right ahead of you. All part of the adventure...

    Motor Gliders

My late father flew a Diamond motorglider after he lost his medical until he quit flying at age 92. Truly can fly it as a plane if you want- he and a friend flew it from California to Oshkosh one year. I recall him telling me that he got his glider rating and self-launch add-on at the airport...

Anyone been to Death Valley/Furnace Creek lately?

Was there in November. Lots of cracks in the runway, but not a safety risk. No fuel or services and I was the only plane there. A great place to visit.
