    ForeFlight 8

Got to play with it today. Not a ground breaking change, but an improvement. My take is, don't like it, don't buy it, but don't sit and bash it. The price is piddly for the product you get, and this doesn't even take into account the(excellent) support from the team which you're not going to...

    VFR over the top

I skipped to the end to post this. Instrument rating - get it. Then you don't have to worry about these kinds of things. That said, the two pictures originally posted, there are a ton of huge holes there. No issue at all. If it closes up, it is pretty easy to tell before you get to it...

    Artic Air Portable A/C Units

Need to have one small hole vented overboard for the condensation to go(it's created on the fins of the evaporator), and a hose routed out of the cabin(rear of fuse or something) to carry off the hot air from the condenser. Doesn't sound like a lot of modification, but the weight is significant...

    Artic Air Portable A/C Units

Looks to me like no cabin air goes outside nor is any drawn in from the outside, provided the cabin vents are closed. The heat is vented overboard via the Freon condensing in the evaporator and a tube routed out of the cabin.. the cabin air itself just gets recirculated over the evaporator.

    Fooling Mr. Hobbs

I agree that the most you're going to need the Hobbs running is a tenth... Walk around and check lights, stall born... Then go back in and shut it off. But consider this... At $120/hr, that tenth costs the renter $12.... Multiply that by 50 lessons. You've added $600 to the cost of a PPL...

    Fooling Mr. Hobbs

I wouldn't rent off master switch hobbs either. "the gyros spin" and "the flap mechanism gets worn out" are silly arguments considering the only gyro spinning is the TC and the flap mechanisms aren't going to really wear if the flaps are deployed at zero airspeed. Mic switches and bulbs? More...

    Fooling Mr. Hobbs

My hobbs runs when the master is on, engine running or not. But I own the airplane, so I don't care.

I flew through my first B on Monday(Chicago)... IFR makes it easy.

To IFR or not to IFR?

Didn't go anywhere near KELSI. MSN to GYY via RFD/JOT/Direct. 20 miles from MSN direct SIMMN, then vectored straight to GYY. Everything I read here and elsewhere, as well as discussing it with my CFI, said that it wouldn't go anything like that. I confess I haven't flown near Chicago's...

Do you ever freak out in the air?

I always feel a hair nervous before a flight. Maybe not even fear, but some sort of anticipation. Once the engine is started up that all goes away. Too busy managing tasks and flying to be worried.

To IFR or not to IFR?

The rating isn't just about flying in IMC. I flew through Chicago's B this morning, and received several shortcuts from ATC that I wouldn't have received VFR. I don't disagree about proficiency, but there's much more utility available to the IR pilot even when it's CAVU.

Cessna 150 - Deal or No Deal?

Definitely a good price if everything checks out on the prebuy inspection. At its age, 5000 hours equates to 113 hours per year, seems perfectly reasonable that it wasn't a flight school airplane.

Fatality Crash KHOU looks like a Cirrus

How would you modify your ground track without changing bank angle? Not sure why your saying the g load is increasing but the not the stall speed... Load factor and stall speed are related.... EDIT - re-read, I see what you wrote now. Proper punctuation would have helped me understand it the...
