    "sterilize the runway"

My home airport is the same as the OP. To answer a previous question, no you can't feel them if you roll over. I used to think sharing the airport with F16s was cool. Now they're just an annoyance for me. I still think they're awesome, but they're annoying. I've had the tower mention...

    Commercial study material recommendations?

Thanks for all the advice. It doesn't look like there is a textbook that is geared just for the commercial ticket(they're all study guides) - they're all an instrument/commercial combination book. Do these textbooks concisely separate the material for the instrument and the commercial? I know...

    Commercial study material recommendations?

I'm aware that it's VFR. My instructor said there is overlapping knowledge on the written.

    Commercial study material recommendations?

I figure I should knock out my commercial since some of it ties in with the instrument, before I forget half of it lol. What do you recommend for study materials/books? I am leaning towards ASA's 2017 test prep/study guide and oral exam books. As I liked their stuff for the instrument...

Yah I forgot about your location for a moment. Makes sense.

What kind of airplane was this? I feel like most single engine bugsmashers will climb with full flaps(not expeditiously of course) if well enough under gross weight and a reasonable DA. I know my Archer does, it's just really draggy.

    Bose A20 vs Lightspeed PFX?

I've heard two similar stories. No way I'd buy the PFX. I primarily fly with the A20 and have no complaints. My dad has a Zulu2 headset in his airplane and so I occasionally use it when I fly that, and that one is fine, pretty close to the Bose(not quite as comfortable for me).

    Auto Pilot and IFR

It's not, for you. For us mortals, it's deemed a requirement. I am not going to fly halfway across the country and get fatigued to hell because I have to hand fly the entire thing, especially if long portions happen to be in IMC.

    WTB Warrior or Cherokee 180

BAHAHAHAHA. Having ridden in it, I actually think it's a decent bird but I am not sure the buyer wants a project:)

That time we smoked a TBM 930....

Man what a badass airplane. I love the turbo commanders.

    WTB Warrior or Cherokee 180

Friend is looking. Just throwing out the hook for any off-market opportunities that might be out there. Looking for a clean 161 or 180. Archer isn't out of the question but I do know those generally cost a little more. Will be used for VFR only so panel isn't a huge deal.. Decent interior...

DA and DH confusion on GPS and ILS approach chart.

Excellent point! Brings up a question from me. The 800/2 and 600/2 rule for alternates, depending on what approaches are available... That's simply for the purpose of filing the alternate, and in practice, if you need to go to the alternate, you can legally shoot whatever approach you wish...

DA and DH confusion on GPS and ILS approach chart.

100 feet above TDZE, not AGL. They might not be the same.

DA and DH confusion on GPS and ILS approach chart.

That's what I recall reading as well, though I don't know any details either. Makes sense... Many times an LPV approach will get you just as low and has the same course width sensitivity as the ILS.

    Ancient checkride maneuvers

Mine was an ILS, go missed and do the published hold 9 DME out(vor on field), go out and do unusual attitudes, come back and do a GPS approach, missed, vectors for a VOR appoach partial panel with a circle to land. My airplane is not equipped with an ADF:)

    Jepp Charts hard to read

I can't stand the Jepp charts BUT I've learned and used the FAA plates. If I had no choice, there's no doubt in my mind I'd adapt fine to the Jepp plates and after a little time I'd have no issue with them at all.

GPS substitute for DME for LOC Approach

Did you try loading the LOC 23L into the 430 instead of the ILS to see if the stepdown fixes appeared? Maybe they're on the profile view of the plate but would only show up on the GPS if you loaded the localizer approach.. seeing as how you've got the glideslope with the ILS approach and those...

    Parachute vs. panel?

As James said, buy the airplane with most of the panel you want. Let someone else pay for it and take the massive depreciation hit. Plenty of airplanes out there with nice panels. You'll pay a little more, but you'll pay a lot more if you put that panel in yourself. No opinion on the...
