    FAA SODA vision question?

I am completely blind in one eye and have had a traumatic brain injury. I fly with a statement of demonstrated ability after a demonstrated ability medical check ride for either a class two or a class three medical; I have had both. I am also an active certificated flight instructor.

What are Your Thoughts About the DPE System?

Most of the check rides I have taken with a DPE were well done. It surprises me how little most DPEs charge. I suspect the oversight of DPEs consumes a lot of hours. In the Sport Pilot world where a CFI can perform an add-on proficiency check ride I have seen a lot of people pass who I feel...

Famous pilots you have met.......I'll start out...

I have attended gyroplane events with Doug Hughes and know the person who built the gyroplane Doug landed on the lawn in front of the capital building. Doug created a lot of interest in gyroplanes for a while.

    Spend $1000 to make $100?

I became a CFI in my sixties and a lot of friends told me it wasn’t worth the effort or money at my age. In my opinion they were wrong and I am 71 now. Learning the required information is a wonderful brain exercise and I have no doubt that it has increased my cognitive ability. I am a much...

    AA required?

Funny thing is; AA helps a lot of people manage their alcoholism despite your opinion. The FAA does not require AA. The FAA doesn’t want drunken pilots. I think it is nice they give pilots a second chance. Peace out.

    AA required?

Thank you for you opinion. I lot of people could not relate to Mathew because he had been a tax collector. In my opinion the New Testament is about love, understanding and forgiveness. I feel a common experience is not required for that.

    AA required?

In my opinion being a Christian is no excuse of a lack of understanding. There are many Christians who abuse alcohol. Below are the 12 steps of AA. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could...

    AA required?

AA wants you to find a higher power; it doesn’t need to be a particular God.

    Gyripane...??

In my opinion based on my flying experience gyroplanes manage turbulence well. A sustained low g maneuver will slow the rotor; potentially creating control issues. I have flown with a G meter practicing for an air show. Even the most radical zoom climb with a low g parabolic exit did not...

    Gyripane...??

A Cavalon has enough room for two garment bags behind the seats. I was good for a week and with my wife three days was still pleasant.

    Gyripane...??

A Sport Pilot Gyroplane rating still requires a proficiency check ride with a different CFI than your primary instructor. For an add-on there is no knowledge test and no specific hours or solo time required. In my experience xcept for takeoff and landing a fixed wing pilot has most of the...

In 1981 my 1972 Harley Davidson Sportster (pictured) was clocked by Sothern California Timing Association at the Bonneville Salt Flats at 177.6 miles per hour setting a record in the APS G 1300 class. In 1985 my 1972 Harley Davidson Sportster was clocked by the Sothern California Timing...

    Gopro for flight training???

I use a GoPro Hero 7 to record lessons for my clients. I find it a great debriefing tool and particularly useful if they are learning to use the radio as we can review the call and see what they left out. Flying a gyroplane is about the sight picture and the instruments are basically used to...

Have You Ever Paid Anyone to Interview them for a Job?

§ 61.65 Instrument rating requirements. (6) Receive a logbook or training record endorsement from an authorized instructor certifying that the person is prepared to take the required practical test; It appears to me the CFI takes responsibility for the person being prepared. Log books are a...

Have You Ever Paid Anyone to Interview them for a Job?

The original poster has had a number of CFIIs over a protracted period of time complete log book entries that the DPE will check. Part of the CFIIs job is to see that the poster is in fact ready for the practical test after three hours of dual instruction in preparation for the test. In my...

    ADS-B question

In my opinion until until you have a report that says it works you don’t have ADSB out. In my opinion with an EAB aircraft a log book entry would be sufficient to document removal.

    Transponder/Airspace Question

In my opinion a transponder with mode C makes the job of air traffic control easier and helps to make the airspace work more efficiently. Without a mode C transponder operating; to air traffic control I am a radar target with no altitude information. As ADSB becomes more popular the...
