    Asset-Based Lenders

Never borrow from a 401K or 403b or the equivalent, especially for a toy. Most expensive money ever when you calculate lost opportunity costs, particularly in a strong stock market like we’ve generally seen the last few years.

    Headset ANR Static

Yep - have it on my Lightspeed PFX. Factory says they can find nothing wrong.

    GRG55 : Gone West

Not much to say that hasn’t been said. He certainly seemed like a great person and a class act. Condolences to his family.

1K Landing Fee proposed in MA

Well - don’t worry - AOPA is on the case now! They will soon be able to declare victory and then use that as an excuse that demonstrates their effectiveness to raise the dues - again.

    Interesting BBQ map video

I know this video has to be wrong. There are NO good BBQ places in Washington State - none, nix, zip, nada.

    Walmart not taking cash.

Apparently not what you think it means. No merchant is compelled to take cash under federal law. As noted by @BobNoel, some states are passing statutes to require certain kinds merchants to accept cash transactions such as grocery stores and pharmacies. And it’s largely because a huge segment of...

So what's the go-to headset these days?

I have a Lightspeed PFX. It is a real POS. The control box is huge and it eats batteries like M&Ms. I also get a lot of feedback, chirping and buzzing that I don’t get with other headsets. The nice people at Lightspeed checked it out said nothing was wrong, etc. And to think I could have bought...

    Dash cams

So my question is do you do anything with the recordings, e.g., do you off-load them on to your computer and then back them up into the cloud? Re-record over?

flyGarmin app for Mac vs. macOS Catalina

Jeff, my understanding is that you will need to buy the Garmin card programmer if you are going to be using the Garmin downloads which are cheaper than the Jepps. I am in the same position - I have a new Skybound WAAS card programmer that I used once and now I want the cheaper Garmin databases.

    Amphibious Commuter Choice

I looked that concept a few years ago and decided it simply would not work on a year around basis. I live on Lake Coeur d’Alene and contemplated an amphibian to travel between the TriCities in Washington State. 3 hours by car and 1 hour by air. The problem is the wakes and boat traffic in the...

Where's your go-to place to fly?

McCall, ID (KMYL). Nice airport and friendly people. Stayed at the Shore Lodge which is on Payette Lake. The town is very busy in the summer with the lake and the winter (Brundage Ski area) but the shoulder seasons are great.

    Well it finally happened- almost!

For me, I was looking to buy just one plane that would fit my needs when I bought it, and as I got more experienced. Since I got into flying later in life (58), I knew I wasn’t going to run through a series of “starter” planes to end up with the one I wanted. I briefly toyed with the idea of a...

What good is an ATP rating?

And I am sorry about your salutation. According to the resolution passed by the Washington State Senate earlier this week, it’s officially “Go Zags”.

Did anyone else buy a BD-5D? "Guaranteed $4,400!!!"

My uncle bought a BD5 kit. My parents stored it for more than 20 years. When he got his A&P license, my Dad thought he would finally start on it. Nope - said it was too hard. Moved to his small farm in West Linn, Oregon. When he died a few years ago, yep - he still had the kit. My poor Aunt...

    University of Oklahoma Aviation?

One of my CFI’s was a graduate of that program, and I have spent some time looking at that program as a result. After instructing for about 2 years, he went to the regional airlines (Skywest) for a few years and then became the Chief Pilot for a corporate flight department. I can say he was...

The FAA was right, this time. This ONE time.

Moderna here. Had a mild reaction at about mid-day on day 2 of the second shot. Very lethargic (ok -maybe it’s hard to tell sometimes - but trust me, I was really lethargic) and the inability to focus on much of anything. Slept most of the day. No issues since. For what I’ve read and according...
