    Toilet Paper

No they don't. The entire produce section at our local grocery store was basically cleaned out by this evening. They're not expecting to get any more in for a few days now. I'll say it again: people are behaving like chimpanzees.

Wondering if I will beat the lockdown

That's true here (lockdown starts statewide in 8 minutes). But most places will not allow customers inside now. You have to drop your car off and pick it up when they're done. I got lucky yesterday: I was able to wait inside the dealership.

    Toilet Paper

Chimpanzee behavior. Or maybe lemming. It is totally insane, but at this point it's partly the fault of the stores. They need to limit the amount that a customer can buy at one time.

    Reopen the SZ

To an extent, maybe, but less so than here. MANY discussions can take place there that wouldn't be allowed here. The one exception I can think of is that the owner is intolerant of generalizations about groups of people... but other than that, his political ideology doesn't seem to result in too...

    Reopen the SZ

I think there will probably be lasting consequences to this that we can't avoid by "not letting it". But it's too early to say what those will be.

    Reopen the SZ

Basically an echo chamber. Once in a great while a truly good discussion gets started, but then the ad hominems start flying and it devolves into chaos. I've pretty much given up on it. It's a good place if you want to be free to say absolutely anything, though, insult anyone you want.

    Reopen the SZ

Brian's board has a Politics and Other Difficult Subjects area - basically a Spin Zone, except that there is still a Play Nice rule there. The kind of ad hominem free-for-all that is Pilot Spin doesn't go on there, and Brian is pretty good at making sure of that. So there are alternatives...

Ohio Governor drops MOAB on his state economy

Strange... a couple of minutes ago this thread was marked "not open for further replies", and now it's open again. A post of mine was deleted because it "referred to a deleted post". Looks like the MC has been busy, and I'm out of the loop...

    How y'all keeping in shape?

If it was worded exactly that way, yeah I would. The exact wording is: Lots of exceptions listed there, but not permitted to leave home except for them is what it means to be "locked down". Yeah, I'm more than slightly troubled that it has come to a lockdown... but there are other threads to...

Ohio Governor drops MOAB on his state economy

The trouble is, it would likely have already been too late... because of the incubation period, because most cases are mild, even subclinical, and because of the fact that China suppressed the truth for as long as they could (hope that's not too political). Might have slowed things down some...

    How y'all keeping in shape?

Our state's lockdown order specifically says that going outside is permitted "for exercise". :) My biggest obstacle to keeping in shape now is Mud Season. We just had a cold weekend, and I took advantage of it Sunday by climbing the local "ski hill" (still called that, though it hasn't been...

Ohio Governor drops MOAB on his state economy

Based on what Mari wrote in a different thread, I suspect the MB feels differently about such statements as "dismissing of experts". Would be nice if they clarified... :(

Wisconsin governor drops MOAB on his state economy

Not clear whether we have the ability or not. As quoted on a different site, this article claims that we are further along in the pandemic than previously thought and, at least in the UK, should begin antibody testing right away. (Unfortunately the article is paywalled and I can't even read it...

    Corona Virus Numbers???

I haven't. It's just much harder to quantify, in terms of causality, than deaths due to disease.

    Corona Virus Numbers???

But I will add what I said elsewhere: the economic consequences are likely to be devastating, and the more so the longer the shutdown lasts. So we have a Sophie's choice: save hundreds of thousands of lives (both due to the virus, and due to other causes because the health system is so...

    Corona Virus Numbers???

I don't think we were in any position to react as quickly as they did, regardless of where the virus originated. The most important thing they did differently from us was widespread testing. There is still not enough testing availability here to meet the need, even several weeks later. I don't...
