Writing your own Will without lawyer

This is one part of life where an attorney is well worth his or her fee. DW and I spent about $1k each IIRC for a will, living will, and durable power of attorney for each. As far as I'm concerned, the heirs paid for it, and I made a good investment on their behalf. They will be glad we did when...

    Show Us Your Pets!

<<<< Our girl Janis, nearly 15 now. She's half-deaf, losing her hair, and naps a lot -- hey, she's just like me! We got her and her brother Jimi at about 8 weeks, and he timed out a year ago. Here they were when we brought them home.

And (assuming you have, or can get access to, an LSA) you can be flying in less time and for less $$.

    Nobody's talking about Meatloaf?

Leap of Faith. Starred Debra Winger too, was actually a decent movie.

    Necrotized Pancreas

In case there's any confusion, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer are totally different things.

    A different place to quarantine

I can't see where someone else's precautions, "no matter how extreme," would cause me harm. On the other hand, someone else's lack of precautions certainly could. So I vax, and mask, and avoid. Doesn't hurt me, or anyone else.

    Retirement questions

That's just bizarre. Everything they publish (that I've seen anyway) says they use your MAGI from 2 years back (as in 2020 MAGI for 2022 IRMAA) unless that year isn't available. And they also say that single-year events, like your capital gain, will only affect IRMAA for a single year --...

Cross Country RV Road Trip. Any Suggestions

We drive an RV between our homes in Delaware and Arizona (round trip) once or twice a year, in addition to shorter trips out West. You have to be either like a truck driver (look at it as a job), or really enjoy a road trip (which I do). Otherwise, pay someone to do it.

    tax advice 101 anyone?

This discussion of tax brackets is a reminder of how low (in historical terms) today's rates are. This is why I'm inclined to pull some $ from my IRAs now (though carefully watching out for the IRMAA monster) before I'm forced to start RMDs in a few years anyway (I'm 68). I figure rates are...

    tax advice 101 anyone?

And there are so many MAGIs.

    tax advice 101 anyone?

Yup. But then you have to remember that some things in the tax code are a "cliff" at each level, where $1 over really hits you -- IRMAA for Medicare rates, for instance, and I think maybe ACA rates, though I'm not sure.

[NA] Brooks shoes and knee soreness?

Also, FWIW, I found that part of my problem was the amount of time I spent shoeless around the house. I now wear orthotic sandals anytime I'm not wearing shoes (i.e., most of the time lol), and it helps me a lot. I'm partial to Spenco (who also makes good inserts), but there are other brands...

    Retirement questions

The "penalty" which is withheld is out of the Social Security that you're collecting, so you don't also pay Social Security or Medicare on that $$. You would pay Federal income tax on up to 85% of what you receive, depending on your "combined income" (AGI + tax-exempt interest + 1/2 of your...

    Retirement questions

The penalty for working while collecting SS is $1 of SS for every $2 you make over a certain amount (in 2021 that is $18,950), and it ends at your full retirement age (FRA). After that there is no penalty. There's a different limit for the year you hit FRA, and then some way that they...

[NA] Brooks shoes and knee soreness?

Brooks makes a lot of different models. I have worn their "Beast" model for years, because I have extremely flat feet, which cause my ankles to pronate, which leads to shin splints. The Beast is designed to not allow that, and I'm on my umpteenth pair (even ran a marathon on them). But I...

Would this get your ATP revoked???

Still talking about the past, not present. Yes, George Wallace was a Democrat, too, and for that matter, Abe Lincoln was a Republican. My point about the Klan was simply that much has changed in the South and elsewhere over the past century and beyond, including the political landscape as it...

Would this get your ATP revoked???

Sorry, but you're reading more into this than I wrote. I was simply saying that today's KKK members are unlikely to be Democrats. If any were, in recent years, I suspect the 2008 election might have inspired them to switch allegiances.

Would this get your ATP revoked???

... "was" being the operative word there. I think it's safe to say that the party affiliation of today's KKK members would be otherwise.
