    Oil filter AD coming out.

I think I'll stick to my screen and 25 hour oil changes.

[NA] New headlights = radio fuzz

Usually it's better to fix the EMI at the source. I would try the ferrites at the headlight wires first, as close as possible to the lights. Most likely the EMI is getting radiated by the headlight wiring and getting into the radio antenna, not getting in via the radio's power lines. Are the...

Why ever would mainframe computers run on 400Hz power?

    Cool tool

Couldn't you trace the wires with a battery and test light and keep the $70?

    what can you do

If only it was that "easy". FAA requires either attending an approved school or many months of documented experience under the supervision of an A&P.

    How much is too much?

Hmmm...your calculations show much more free play than mine. Care to show your math (I'm sounding like my 8th grade science teacher!) or indicate where mine is wrong?

NA - New one on me: Rodents chewed wiring in my car NA

Honda sells special rodent proof tape to put over the wiring harnesses: https://www.collegehillshonda.com/product/4019-2317.html Supposedly it contains the same active ingredient found in chili peppers!

    How much is too much?

At TDC/BDC the crank pin is moving perpendicular (sideways) to the piston/rod so the crank will move a relatively large distance before the piston moves noticeably. This is why you find TDC by stopping the piston short of TDC, measuring the angles in both directions, and splitting the...

    How much is too much?

I neglected to account for the piston ring side clearance. Service limit for the oil control ring is .006"; for calculations this can be added to the big end clearance. This doubles the above to 0.21", still much less than 1".

    How much is too much?

Like the man says, free play is highest at TDC/BDC. In a four cylinder when two cylinders are at TDC the other two will be at BDC. One of the TDCs will be at the end of the compression stroke. Is this where you are seeing the 1" free play? If so, suggest you rotate the prop 90 degrees so the...

    2016 Miata, exploded view

I'm reminded of the old joke about a driver's worst nightmare: stuck in traffic with a Ford Pinto in front of you and an Audi 5000 behind you.

    Black exhaust soot??

What type of fuel are you using? With 100LL or other leaded fuel I would expect grey deposits from the exhaust. With today's Mogas or other no-lead fuel I would expect black deposits.

Why did my Cam Follower turn blue?

You've got the engine sitting on a blue mat. The blue on the cam follower looks suspiciously like the blue of the mat. I'd say it's ambient light reflecting off the mat on to the follower. Try using a different color mat.

    [NA]Outdoor electrical outlets for home[NA]

Yes, but the correct/economical way of wiring is to have the GFCI as the first outlet in the branch. Any bright ideas on how to identify this with a minimum of effort? All I can think of is disconnecting each outlet until the power feed from the breaker panel is identified.

    Engine Preheating.

Hmmm... a typical car battery is 50 amp-hours or 12 X 50 = 600 watt-hours. A Reiff/Tanis is about 500 watts. So allowing for a less-than-100% 12V to 120V conversion efficiency, the battery will run the system only for one hour. It seems the numbers don't add up. Can you post or provide a...

    Double clutching the downshift.

It is on some Fords, like wifey's old Mustang with a C4. Selecting 2 puts it in 2 at all speeds. This reduces torque at the wheels and so aids traction in snow. However on many other vehicles like Chryslers selecting 2 means it can and will go to 1 also and so it is no help with snow.

    Double clutching the downshift.

I said turns not stops. Suppose you are coming up to a right turn and the light is green. I will down shift into second before making the turn. Do you leave it in top gear?

    Double clutching the downshift.

So you make turns at intersections in top gear?

    Test Generator Voltage Regulator

The generator light is connected one terminal to switched battery voltage and one terminal to generator output voltage. It illuminates when the generator voltage is below the battery voltage and the cutout relay (part of the VR) is open. When the generator is at charging speed the cutout...
