Things That Bug me in TV Shows and Movies

Hair styles reflect the date the show was produced, rather than the date the show is set in, e.g. Westerns.

Tubed tires - Why oh why do they leak?

All good except you did not mention coating the tube with talc to provide "lubrication" :)

Tubed tires - Why oh why do they leak?

I've had automobiles with tube and tubeless tires and never noticed much difference in normal leakage. Get a puncture though and the tube tire will usually deflate very quickly while the tubeless usually deflates slowly. There is plenty of evidence that tubeless tires do leak. First, the...

What's the mask/vaccine requirement situation in your area?

Some regression here in SE Michigan. My employer abandoned their return-to-work plans and now encourages people to work from home again. We are now required to wear masks in the office even while at our desks although this does not seem to be enforced. Kroger grocery stores now have a sign...

    C150 discharging

I'm guessing the OP was measuring with the engine running since there was 11.8V on the field terminal. This means the regulator was "full fielding" the alternator, i.e. trying to turn it on full blast. Since the battery voltage was only 12.8 it suggests the alternator is not functioning...

How can I watch the Olympics

^^^^^^^^^THIS!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If you are not an expert in the subject I recommend "antenna man" on You Tube. He does reviews of antennas and related stuff. He will recommend an antenna for your address; I expect there is a charge for this but I don't know how much.

    Whine from alternator

No, under most conditions the voltage regulator would compensate for the bad diode and maintain the average/DC voltage at a normal level.

    Non-aviation ANR headphones

I always liked my DC H10-30 passive noise reduction head set so I bought the 10S/DC for listen-only. Sound great and same rugged construction as the H10-30. Always take them on commercial flights as I can't stand the stick-it-in-your-ear types the airlines supply.

Nah, the Sterling engine uses a gas (typically air) as the working fluid, no boiling or condensing involved: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stirling_engine

    The Mathematically Boring Engine

I heard that theory too, coming from some German University group IIRC. It's quite easy to show it is bunk. Look at the chart at the bottom of this web page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brake-specific_fuel_consumption The Saturn I4 with 475 cc/cylinder, the Rotax 914 with 303cc/cylinder...

Weird RV Air Conditioning/Heat Pump Project

It may not be as "simple" as adding a reversing valve. A problem with heat pumps is that the outside coil will often be below freezing, so frost forms. If there is too much frost the air flow and efficiency go way down. So a typical heat pump will have a defrost cycle where the unit is put in...

    It is so cold....

It seems that the Texas windmills (I don't see why they deserve to be called turbines) were built to a price, assuming normal weather conditions and don't include the extras for cold weather operation...

    Transistors!

True, but there was a huge difference between the warm up time of battery operated sets and AC line powered sets. The cathode of a battery operated tube was just a filament, termed directly heated. Their warm up time was on the order of 1 second. Tubes designed for AC operation were quite...
