    When to repaint a plane?

Every 20 years? I wish. I think I might get lucky if every 20 years I get one year without big expenses. :D

    Insurance question

^^^ Yes. It sure has become that way. 6-place airplanes seem a much larger premium over 4-place planes for liability insurance now, compared to a few years back when the gap was not all that much. I guess they think you're going to take an entire Cub Scout troop with you when you buy the farm...

Did anyone else buy a BD-5D? "Guaranteed $4,400!!!"

That was deliberate. To make Coors Banquet seem bespoke. Wasn't that stuff made somewhere up near your altitude?

    C-140 Two Fatal 4/18/21

Of course, low and slow carries more risk. And the implications that "you can easily land if things go south" when you are low and slow "right next to an airport" has been disproven repeatedly; the number of fatal airport proximity accidents posted on this forum over time is ample evidence. The...

Not wishing to appear pedantric, but all earnestness (<-- is that a real word?) I heard from an FAA official it's misspelled. ;)

Seems to be more retracts on the market

I fully support your spending the inheritance. Sooner rather than later.

Seems to be more retracts on the market

Agree with your first point. But why would the 3rd party liability be any different for a low time pilot flying an Arrow vs a fixed gear 235 Cherokee of similar vintage, just as an example? Seems to me it is just the in-motion hull coverage that should be the price issue. Same point @Pilawt...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

The tower controllers at my home airport don't suffer from this. They all bark sharply at the students to make sure they understand how the commander-commanded relationship works. The only mumbling is the students doing so under their breath.

    C-140 Two Fatal 4/18/21

Nothing inherently wrong with flying "low and slow" (most of us have to do some of that on every landing approach). But we all know it means being even more alert to such things as airspeed decay. From their videos I gather they had a Cessna 140, so presumably quite familiar with the type. I...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Only if you are using an iPad with syn viz and a digital AHRS input. Otherwise it's probably contrary to the FARs and you risk the same fate as Martha Lunken.

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Is it just my imagination or has there been a recent uptick in the number of IFR related questions on PoA? If I am not imagining it, I have to take that as a good sign - nice to see it, and all the responses from experienced pilots here.

France bans some short-haul domestic flights

Years ago, when I was living in London, I got caught in one of these at Nice. I was trying to get back to the UK on an EasyJet flight after a weekend visit with a friend in France. France's college students had been striking, yet again, over some issue or another (tuition? free croissants...

Seems to be more retracts on the market

Go back and read my original post in #22. That's what you responded to; which in turn I responded to. No change from the original premise I stated in #22. Most people here currently flying, or considering a retractable airplane, are dealing with 40+ year old airplanes. Not everyone. But most...
