What are the required steps to flying from US to Canada?

-File the eAPIS -File a flight plan - ask for the border crossing transponder code from FSS when you file - you will need to be squawking this code for 10 minutes prior to and after crossing the border to keep DHS happy. -Call the Canadian Border Services Agency CANPASS number 1-888-CANPASS...

    The road

You just knew you were going to regret getting rid of the Yukon, with which you would have ignored all this and just driven through it. ;) My vote is to raise it up and make sure you can crown it to drain properly. Not sure of your soil conditions where you are, but I wouldn't use black dirt...

    BearHawk, No suspension?

^^^ This. The stall speeds of the airplane has always been one of my selection criteria for the ones I have owned over the years. In the event of an accident its all about how much energy has to be dissipated. That, for me, is more important than whether the plane is welded steel tube...

    BearHawk, No suspension?

The 'A' frames pivot at the two attach points to the fuselage. @Stewartb covered the oil-filled spring shock strut.

    No. :p

    Induction system hose clamp tightness

I hate to think what they call a "pilot with a torque wrench". :D

    Well it finally happened- almost!

It can make a lot of sense, if that "90%" situation actually applies, as it widens the range of airplanes that can be considered. As an example, there are a number of people here that have Cessna 140s, which I think is a tremendous, affordable, fun to fly option...if it fits the intended...

    Rough River 2021 - 2I3 - 4/30 - 5/2

Great pictures! Thanks for posting. The rest of us are envious, and sorry we missed it. Wishing all a smooth(er) flight home!

    Rant-People on vacation

I suspect they all know exactly where they are. They are driving slowly because it's difficult to keep your eyes on that tiny phone screen with Google Maps and not run into something. ;) Sort of the land based version of a VFR plane with two glass screens and a Foreflight iPad. :p

How often do you update your Garmin databases?

^^^ This. I keep the twin IFR legal. I am not sure why it takes 40 minutes to do an update every month? Is this a G1000 and the updates include terrain, etc? My updates for the 530W take less time than it takes to retrieve the card from the plane and go out to the hangar to reinstall it.

    True cross-country flight plans

Certainly! It's got a "fat" wing, bolted in the right place. But if any of us get in the papers they'll say we were flying a Cessna regardless.

Best ipad configuration / size for cockpit??

I use a standard sized iPad Air with the internal GPS for Foreflight, and keep all my other aviation related things on it. It does not get used for anything else. I like the extra screen size over the Mini (at my age).

    True cross-country flight plans

Nope. You fly a Piper. You are blessed. :) I fly a Piper, @hindsight2020 flies a Piper, the OP flies a Piper. It always works out, even with a headwind. Which is rare when you fly a Piper. Now, for those high wing types...not so much.

    Well it finally happened- almost!

I hear you. I rented for many years. Warriors, 172s, 182, then the Club's Arrow. My first plane was a beat up looking Cherokee 160 with a barely working radio. It was a step down from what I was renting, but it was what I could afford and most important - it was mine! Took it to 2400 nm...

    Well it finally happened- almost!

Clearly your instructors failed to inform you of Natural Law of Aviation #1, which states "No matter how large the plane, no matter how much the useful load, no matter how fast the cruise speed, no matter how high it can go and no matter how nice the panel, it's never enough." ;) Check out post...

    Let's build a [Harmon] Rocket

Google "Andy Warhol 15 minutes of fame" :D More seriously, Reno has to be the biggest continuous party atmosphere of any annual aviation event I've ever attended. The antique fire truck showcases the race pilots, team members and others that make that event what it is. It's become one way for...

STOL demonstration at Sun 'n Fun 2021

The first time I watched one of these live was between the race heats at Reno. That competition was a variation with timed two-way runs. Incredibly entertaining. Both the competitors and spectators were really into it - of course I hang out with the crazies in Section 3 and they're into...

In that instance the stories we will make up here and spread around the wwweb will be far more incriminating.:D

    Dehydration

Made my day. I'm going to show Mrs. GRG55 just how much I am economizing by limiting myself to the Aztec. ;)
