    The Perfect Pilot?

The best mistakes are the ones you tell all your pilot friends while drinking beer and hangar flying when the weather is crud. Early on I did a "first notch of flaps" take off in my Cherokee 160. Forgot to retract them and didn't recognize it until a couple of hours later when I went to extend...

    Why Aircraft Engines Quit

Is this like being born again? Just askin' :D

    Do pilots still navigate?

That's only good if you stay close to home. If your plane has long range tanks you need to be a bit more comprehensive with your back up plan ;) (And you don't want to know what Jeppesen charges for the database updates for this option! )

    Silly Question

^^^ Love it! But I do think the first explanation - the displacement of romantic wood and fabric little airplanes flying off fresh mown grass by mass produced riveted metal "tin cans" flooding out from Wichita's paved runways - is the best one. :D Even Piper, at Lock Haven, tried to resist the...

    Do pilots still navigate?

NOTHING fills a cockpit faster than a Sectional. But I do agree that it's best to use them in a high-wing taildragger...that way there's plenty of time to figure out how to re-fold them, before we get lost, when we get to the edge of the visible portion of the chart. :D I love GPS. :D...

    The Perfect Pilot?

^^^ This is good advice, but only to a point. As with most things human it's best to apply in moderation. Taken to an extreme something beneficial can become extraordinarily harmful. To the OP I would ask, are you an obsessive-compulsive in other aspects of your life, or just the flying? As...

Comanche Eng Overhauled in 1980 but aircraft in A1 condition

The original "smiley face" with a cute little button nose and straight teeth is the Bonanza. Little heavy on the eyebrows though. ;)

Comanche Eng Overhauled in 1980 but aircraft in A1 condition

Yes, I know a few people that think the same about the '57 Chev Bel Air.

Comanche Eng Overhauled in 1980 but aircraft in A1 condition

One of the finest looking single engine airplanes of their era. Still turn my head whenever I see one of their ever diminishing numbers on a ramp. Their look has aged much better than some other '50s vintage designs.

Comanche Eng Overhauled in 1980 but aircraft in A1 condition

I think you have to add them individually. Choose "Upload a File" lower right. Go to the directory on your computer where the picture is stored and pick it. Edit added: I see you managed to do it. Nice looking airplane. Change the oil, do a thorough preflight, fire it up, give it a good run...

Comanche Eng Overhauled in 1980 but aircraft in A1 condition

If it is in the interior of Australia your main issue may not be the engine. I'd probably just give it an oil change and fire it up. However, what kind of hangar? Metal? Air conditioned? Because if it's been sitting for decades without climate control, and during the hot weather months...

    Thoughts! $390k 74 206?!?!?

I appreciate that $390k barely buys two good used 172s these days, so that's one way to look at it I suppose. :D If I spent another $390k on airplanes I'd have one for every day of the week, including one to fly to church on Sunday. Who could have imagined there would be nearly half...

Do you still have a 5 1/4 floppy drive?

Cassettes? Those were leading edge! I remember doing Fortran programming using decks of punch cards. Each program held together with elastic bands so the cards would stay in order for loading into the reader.

    Magnus Fusion in Colorado

And how is this in any way relevant in this set of circumstances and location? Other than perhaps the unfortunate pilot also thought the above factoid was adequate reason to head westbound flying down in the canyons heading into the rising terrain of the Divide in a 100 hp LSA as dusk approached?

Question About Running 50/50 Blend of Aeroshell and Synthetic

Mixing wasn't the issue. The rationale presented by the OP doesn't support the need to have to do so.

Question About Running 50/50 Blend of Aeroshell and Synthetic

Because I am based in a northern Rockies climate a large number of the airplanes here run multigrade oil year-round, including me in the pair of IO-540s on the Aztec and my O-360 powered Husky. I don't know one owner here that blends anything in with AeroShell 15-50, most have been running it...

How many hours off makes an engine "cold" again?

There is no set number. Airplane engines are like children. No two are alike. What works best and under what ambient temperature conditions, and duration since last engine shut down will vary greatly. You'll gain experience on whatever engine/airplane you are flying as you use it. It's all...

    CO in the cockpit

Cessna 180. But then all those high-wing, strut-braced Cessnas look the same. :D (ducks to avoid heavy airborne projectiles)
