    Winter flying and icing

I turned on the heat as soon as I saw this. It worked almost instantly. This was definitely a learning experience for me. I notified ATC and they cleared me without any delay. If they hadn’t I would have definitely descended anyway. It literally scared the hell out of me! The plane felt...

    Winter flying and icing

My first “real” icing situation happened last May. I was somewhere over central Ohio at 11k feet just above a 3k foot thick layer. ATC started my decent and sent me to 9k. As soon as I leveled off at 9k I took this picture and informed ATC I was picking up ice and needed to get lower...

How do you do the missed approach procedure? GPS required?

What's behind the "cross NEBTE at or below 2000" I'm not sure I have ever seen that on a missed procedure.

    Boat or Airplane

I have a 32’ Persuit and a Cessna 182. They cost about the same to buy (pursuit is a 2008 Cessna is a 1973) but the 182 is much more expensive to own. Parts, electronics upgrades, motors, pretty much everything is way cheaper for the boat. Fuel burn is higher for the boat but we spend a lot...

    How often do you fly?

I fly very sporadically it seems. I get 100-140 hours a year but it sometimes comes in bursts. I might not fly for a month then fly 30 hours the next month. Work and weather are my biggest holdbacks.

    GPS suspend/unsuspend

Hey RussR, I have a question for you on the GTN series. I get the option to remain suspended or unsuspend. If a climb is required before going to the next waypoint, I don't push either button until I'm at the required altitude. Just curious, If I hit remain suspended and climb to the...

    GPS suspend/unsuspend

"Suspend" is referring to the sequencing of the GPS, if you unsuspend it will activate the published missed procedure in the GPS. If you remain suspended it will basically do nothing.

    deep dish pizza, chicago area

American opened in 1917 Lafayette opened next door in 1924. Both are still serving the same "coneys" today. I'm not saying these are the best dogs in the world but they are pretty tasty! especially after a couple dozen beers. Detroit does have some good dogs.

RV-6 or 7. (plenty of them around) maybe a Sling Tsi if you want to build. A friend of mine is building a Sling Tsi and it seems like a very straight forward kit. Once i retire, I'm definitely going o look into the Sling Tsi High wing.

Skyline chili is a dish, made "popular" in Cincinati Ohio. It's basically over cooked spaghetti noodles with a watery, bland, chili poured on top. It's finished with a bunch of cold shredded cheese just piled on top of that. It's something only someone from Ohio could enjoy.
