You can't do that, you're IFR

when you ask for a weather deviation he is responsible for traffic separation still. thats why sometimes they will only give you, say, left deviationsonly or up to a certain amout. when he gives you left or right deviations approved, he has no conflicting traffic to worry about. with the...

    Initial CFI failure rate

I agree that we are getting some lousy cfi’s, but i don’t think an arbitrary fail rate is the answer. More consistent dpe’s might be a good start. A few dpe’s explaining to the current cfi’s why they are failing candidates will go a long way. Any cfi that has more than one candidate turned away...

    Initial CFI failure rate

So it’s come full circle. Use to be the faa did all cfi rides, then they started having dpe’s give them. When I did mine they had a great racket going. You had to call the faa and they told you who you were going to. they had their little click. The faa wanted an 80 percent bust rate, so they...

    KX200 - Slide in KX155/KX165 replacement

Ok, so it’s not just a slide in, its a new radio with backwards and upgrade capability. Very good idea, I discussed exactly that concept with tkm when they were developing the mx155. That explains the price, the big question is does it support the sl30 protocol and if not are the going to...

Buying a plane from an Estate

i Bought my fathers aircraft from the estate when he passed. It was in a trust, all I needed was the documents that spelled out who had control of the trust, a bill of sale with his name listed as deceased instead of owner, and a death certificate and the faa was happy. Get a title search if...

    GTN 650 Installation

spot on. Also, garmin has never released the manuals and schematics for them, so when garmin stops supporting them it’s game over. Unlike the thru hold designs of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, those units are high density surface mount, you dont just fix the board, you replace it. Without farming...

    KX200 - Slide in KX155/KX165 replacement

If it’s a slide in there is no pins on the kx155 for a rs232 interface, which is how the efis systems communicate with the radios. They may have something in their anthem hardware to make it work, but without 232 it will not interface with the dynon and garmin systems.

    KX200 - Slide in KX155/KX165 replacement

the big problem is it is still an analog radio and will not interface with glass. so if you want to upgrade to a g3x or hdx you still need to install a new digital radio, like the 255 to interface with the glass. i have often said that the person that can design a box that makes the king,narco...

    GTN 650 Installation

430? bad idea. they have not been made for almost 15 years and the parts supply is almost gone. when that happens its a boat anchor if it needs service. it was a great unit, but its days are over. a new install of one is a foolish idea.

Do I need a commercial cert?

in the most simple terms, if the flight is incidental to your business, or in case of giving someone a ride, you were going anyway, then you have nothing to worry about. as to giving rides, the simplest way to look at it is, if you are going to bugtussle, and your friend says i hear your going...

    Rebuilding certified T&F as EAB

the difference i that the FAA looks at the any part that came off a previously built aircraft as a repair, not fabrication. the problem is a few people were abusing the rules so the FAA shut it down.
