    Comms and Aeronautical Lexicon

I'm just starting to learn to fly and have whopping 8 hours of seat time. I'm finding it more of a challenge than I ever gave it credit but I am learning and getting more confident after every flight. What I'm really struggling with is communications...and I'm not even flying from a towered...

    FAA/PPL and Med Cert

I took the advise here and called the regional office, left a message and they actually called back! It seems the FAA sent a letter 5 weeks ago requiring more information...A letter I've been watching for for MONTHS and NEVER got... It's the FAA, It's the government, It's the postal...

    FAA/PPL and Med Cert

Well Thanks all!! Just sucks to be in limbo for so long...and the feeling your ass is entirely in someone else's hands. As far as "glacier slow" Ya got a feeling for how many eons it will take? I've heard rumors as much as a year. Crap, I sure hop not...

    FAA/PPL and Med Cert

So, my son started flying and got his PPL. It got me super excited and I decided I wanted to fly too. We went together and bought a super nice Cherokee 160 and we split it down the middle. I am presently taking lessons and learning to fly... Here's the kink...Before I even started I got...

    Vx and Vy

I think I'm starting to get it...THANKS for all the feedback. I think where I was getting confused (and I'm REALLY new at this!) I didn't realize that Vx/Vy ratings are with the throttle pinned full open and pitching up for those speeds...thus establishing a rate of climb. I was thinking, and...

    Vx and Vy

I'm having a hard time getting my head around Vx and Vy. After research and study, I still don't understand why Vx is actually at a lower speed than Vy. My intuition is it should be a faster speed. Any help understating this is appreciated...

    Garmin Pilot

AH-HA!! I think you hit the nail on the head! We've been using the tablet GPS all this time. We have a GDL 50 on board my son is flying today. I just called him to alert him to make the change/check the settings in GP.Connext. THANKS for that info!!

    Garmin Pilot

Here is another quirky/goofy thing GP seems to do...It does not always record a flight...the trace of a flight or any of the data associated with the flight. Mine is sent to record and will sometimes do just fine...or sometimes it won't and I don't realize it until later after take off. It did...

    Garmin Pilot

Recently got GP and in some areas of this program, there is a bit of a learning curve. I have yet to find a full tutorial that covers its potential. Has anyone got information or a link that will help us less informed. One thing that is driving me nuts is...how does one "markup" or draw lines...

    Garmin Pilot

So just to be clear, any ipad that you plan on using it's internal GPS must have the cellular option. With iPads that are WiFi only, there is NO GPS. Is this correct? I'm not an Apple guy, never owned an Apple anything...nothing against Apple...but for flying, the last thing I want is software...

    Garmin Pilot

Thanks all...Sounds like it has a pretty good chance of running well on Android. I would probably get a Samsung S7 to run it on but kind'a hate to crapshoot part of buying a new tablet and "HOPE" it works. Ya think the better "bullet proof" route might be Foreflight and an ipad?

    Garmin Pilot

Is Garmin Pilot (GP) buggy?? I'm test driving GP and right off the bat it seems buggy. In it's defense, I'm running it on an older Samsung Tab-A but GP does weird things like the track or bread crumb trail comes and goes or looses the trace all together. When on a VFR chart in the house testing...

Old Guy, New Pilot, New Member

Well Kenny, I read your post from start to finish. What a journey, great accomplishment, good for you! My story is...I'm 67 yrs old and have ONE amazing flight under my belt. I too will have to scrap with the FAA over a Class3 medical but over a pituitary/hormone issue where the AME was...
