    Magneto Question

Hate to admit it, but it kept me awake for a while contemplating how the mag timing worked out. I kind'a had it in my head but your explanation brought it to life...THANKS!!

    Magneto Question

I think I got it figured out...the rotor in the mag is geared so it's turning half the speed of the engine thus allowing each cycle of the points to be directed to 4 spark plugs....JFYI

    Magneto Question

Man, this is bugging me...So the mags are out of the Cherokee with a Lycoming 0320 for service and repair. Before sending them off, I popped off the cover to look at the points...what is puzzling me is the rotor has TWO lobes to break the points. I'm thinking back to the old days in autos when...

    Garmin Pilot Question

OK, here's another shot of flight planning. Still no icons to share or email. Getting to be a PITA...lol. My son has his own subscription so we need to be able to shoot data back and forth...there's gotta be a way.

    Garmin Pilot Question

If you build a route on your tablet using GP, is there a way to send that route (or even user created waypoints) to another user of GP? Like between PIC and co-pilot? Another awesome feature would be to build a route on the PC and send it to your tablet... Obviously I have a lot to learn about...

    Magnetos

If it makes you feel any better, it's within the POH and about 100 to 120 RPM drop on each mag. Going from the problem RPM drop of 500, 100 seemed like "essentially no mag drop". I was making conversation and following up on my original post for the benefit of the forum. We all understand...

    Magnetos

I'm the OP...We got the plane in and had the mags checked. BOTH were out of time (one more than the other) and had to be pulled and reinserted because the slots were out of travel (this what they told me). They are old mags...it's an old plane...the owner of the shop said they have packing...

    Magnetos

How often are you guys actually servicing magnetos? I'm talking about early stuff...ours is 1962 Cherokee. The logs are a bit sketchy (IMHO) for the last 20 years and I'm not sure if they have (if ever) had any service. We recently had a mag drop go from acceptable to not, in a few short weeks...

    Need a Prop...

With all your help...I have a few angles going. Possible repair of our prop, or Tiffen Aire in Ohio has 5 in stock. Talked to our local guy here, where it will be installed and he will check the crank for TIR. If that friggn crank is bent, the game is over. Wish us luck...

    Need a Prop...

First THANKS!! for the quick feedback, gives me somewhere to start. Second, we bought this plane in January out of Alabama. Relied on locals in the area to provide the inspections and verification of the condition of the plane. So far it's beyond disappointing. The plane is nice but it was...

    Need a Prop...

So, the sad story is...we've had a vibration and had a guy come out to check/balance our prop. Turns out the prop is bad. Not so much out of balance but "bent"...where one blade is running one inch out of plane with the other...makes it "wobble". Bottom line...we need a new prop. These buggers...

    New Radios...

Thanks, but no avionic shop I found will install "carry in" radios". One guy said it was like "buying a steak at the market and taking it to a restaurant to have it cooked". We've always done nearly all the work on this little plane but I just don't feel like tackling this project.
