Sac Exec and Mather Field in CA

That sounds good. The best Gyro place I've ever been to was a Turkish place in Germany. Donner Kebabs with a beer for 5 Deutsche Marks....

Sac Exec and Mather Field in CA

I'll be down in the area for work from Monday night to early Thursday morning and I'm looking to see what the aviation community is like. If there isn't much happening, I'm also curious about general activities in the area. Best case, I'd like to meet some local pilots or try something new like...

I did a lot of training at S50 (Dick Scobee Field, Auburn Muni) and it is busy.... I love that place but you need to be looking everywhere.

I believe I heard him say something about renewing his CFI online while waiting out the weather. I know who I want to send my friends to for training...

    Squawk Discrete?

I flew out of an Army club that became part of a Joint Base with the USAF after the club was disbanded( 40+ years after it's inception but that is a different story). JBLM now has 2 runways, 1 Army and 1 AF within their footprint and I've never followed a procedure like this.

    Victor airways

I would imagine that it is because 5 sm either side of the center of the airway equals 4.3 nm. Rounding down seems reasonable and that would give us the 8nm airway instead of the 8.68nm version.

    Victor airways

I did begin to question the school when I started teaching the commercial ground school I was supposed to be a student in. The instructor was young and not used to teaching and the students had so many questions the poor kid was flustered more often than not. I became a presenter and he would...

    Victor airways

I asked a CFI about that one and got a blank stare. A couple of years later while receiving a FR, I asked that CFI the same question and he argued that it was a misprint and there was no such thing....

    cockpit management

This is pretty much what I did during my training. Depending on the plane I was flying there was either a 430 or a KLN-89b that did everything the iPad would have done. The knee board, paper and pencil was stupid simple and if I wanted to look something up without messing with the dash mount I...

Pirep Please: Double Eagle Aviation CFI program, Tucson, AZ

I might be wrong and I haven't looked at their current web site but I believe that the last time I looked, the aircraft in their main photo were the same aircraft I was flying up here in Washington at Dick Scobee field in Auburn.

    Dual cross country before solo?

Here in the NW (trained for PPL in both WA and AK), the winds and weather can limit when you may be able to solo. My first instructor conducted some training with me to airports with different runway alignments prior to signing me off to solo and I was told the reasons were two-fold. One was...

    Cascades WA flight

yes.... the real Washington and not the propaganda photos.. I was a tank commander and my wing man set fire to all of the ground cover as he was maneuvering to my side. The fire soon raged out of control, jumped the Columbia river, destroyed a winery and required a call up of the National Guard...

    Cascades WA flight

Washingtonian here... only left because the Army made me. The images you are showing everyone is why I came back after my career even with all of the crazy that has invaded this place since I was a kid in the 70s. Unfortunately, those images are also part of the reason the crazy moved here in...

    Traveling for Business

I have a buddy that lives on an airport and works for Boeing. He uses his plane to commute more often than not here in the Washington gloomy weather and his commute is reduced from a couple of hours to about 20 minutes. The difference between what he does and what you are considering is that he...

Advice on GI Bill for flight training

I understand things may have changed since I last used my GI Bill for training but much of what I see posted is more in line with the Montgomery GI Bill and not the Post 9/11 GI Bill. You must first determine what one you have before knowing the benefit. Now, when I enlisted it was under the...
