A question for you career military guys.

You are 100% correct. Too many times I've seen people promoted out to make way for people that could actually do the job.

A question for you career military guys.

Don't read too much into it. The next level of command may have used this as a way to discredit someone that was "disruptive" or it could have been a major issue. You really don't know unless you have read an OER, FITREP, or whatever your branch calls them. Just drive on and keep doing your job...

    [NA] PNW vacation

Banff is awesome! I go to Bend every year and stay at Sun River (https://www.sunriverresort.com/). They even have a great runway (http://www.airnav.com/airport/s21).

    [NA] PNW vacation

The cannery pier spa in Astoria is great plus you can visit the filming locations of the Goonies. I grew up south east of Seattle and it was great in the 80s and 90s but I wonder why I came back. There are cool things like the museum of flight, Seattle Aquarium, Space Needle and so on but try to...

    Non-IR Commercial and 50 miles

Devil's advocate.. Isn't that from the point of origin? If one flew 49.9 miles and spent the evening having dinner, playing golf, watching a movie or some other similar event could that not be the end of that trip?

    Wake Turbulence - C172 vs 737

My wake story... Sitting at the hold short line of RNWY 15 at KGRF on what was then known as Ft. Lewis (JBLM), I was told to hold for the opposite direction departure of a C-17. My CFI was a newly retired Cobra and Apache pilot and he was explaining that the 3 or 4 knot tailwind wouldn't effect...

Unusual Attitude in IMC during IFR Checkride?

I filed and flew it. Once arriving at the destination we modified the plan when asked how the approach would terminate. After completing a hold and all of the approaches at that airport, including the NDB (aarrgghh), we requested the RNAV at the origin airport and the DPE informed the...

    The fear is driving me…

Remember that Bob Hoover had to overcome airsickness to become a pilot. If you want it, train the fear out.

    What a difference

I was in uniform and needed to go back to work. My instructor asked about cutting my shirt and I said no. It was a distraction... He was a newly retired Army Apache pilot and little did I know but there was a bucket of water being tossed over the cowling of the 172 as he was taking the photo.

    Aviation non-profit executive compensation.

A non-profit is still a business and it needs to attract talent that can run it like a business. If it was a local PTA then the discussion would be different than an organization that employs tens, hundreds, or even thousands of people.

    CFI's - Logging in ForeFlight

I don't want to admit how many times I've purchased digital media only to have the service go under. My log book is far more important than some downloads of Foreigner or Blondie so if I'm still upset about losing those... I figure my logbook is worth something like 40K and I'm still low time...

    USAA Driving App

I've had USAA since I enlisted in 95 and loved their service. Had an issue with shipping damage to my Harley coming from Germany and an hour after placing the call an adjuster was taking photos. 2 quotes later and a check was in my hand. Had a card stolen while in France and was nearly cleaned...

    Cirrus vs. Other for Training

I'm glad they can change tires because so many farm that out to AAA or some other entity because they simply don't know how. Now that we have cell phones I can understand the argument that they can always call for help. My experience is that when I've needed my phone the most, there was no...

    Cirrus vs. Other for Training

That is unfortunate. Can they drive a stick shift? Change a tire? Telling me they can't read an analog watch kind of proves my point... My 9 year old can do that but he can also align a VOR, change brake pads and do basic coding in VB. He can also read a map and give you his location in MGRS...
