Oh I see, you actually are arguing that seatbelt laws are bad. Ok, at least we understand each other, but I suspect we won't agree on much beyond that. Thanks for the conversation though. -G

Can't say I follow you here. Are you suggesting that there shouldn't be seatbelt laws, or laws against mobile phone distractions on the road? Should there not be mode-c transponder requirements in busy airspace? I doubt you'd argue for those things... ADS-B is cheap (in airplane terms)...

Owners: did you overbuy for your original expected mission?

I started powered flying with a PA-28-161. While it was a great airplane and taught me a lot, early experience with IFR showed me it just didn't have the performance I wanted for safety and utility. I moved to a C182 and love the attributes of that airplane. I could have saved myself some...

    172/Dutchess Near Miss

I do get that. Like all aspects of aviation, this is a tool that needs to be used properly. But I've seen lots of posts over the past few years from people asserting that the technology is bad because someone out there has misused it. That's pretty foolish, it is an amazing safety aid...

Anyone that talks down the saftey benefit of ADS-B either hasn't used it, or has a hatred of progress :)

    Cessna doorpost AD

    Scary pic, that... thanks.

    Cessna doorpost AD

Interesting... thanks for that. Any reference to the cracking reports you could give?

    Cessna doorpost AD

Did you discover cracks? The installation of this kit is not trivial. FAA estimates 40 hours labor.

    Cessna doorpost AD

I'm not familiar with the history of this AD. We're there any catastrophic failures driving this inspection?

Someone Just Had a Very Bad Day in D.C.

Hey don't take this too lightly. After the mass drone attack on those Saudi oil facilities, I'm sure this sort of thing is keeping a lot of security people from sleeping.

    OSH RV Rental

Wow, that really sucks. I wasn't planning on attending this year, but still a bummer for those that want an RV on site.

Locations to take the wife on first flight

Yeah, and as all the others said, pick a great day with stable conditions (no turbulence).

    Oshkosh 2020

This firework display was seriously, no exaggeration, one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.

    What next... glider, tailwheel?

On my private checkride, the DPE was like 'show me this awesome glider stuff on this power off landing'. I almost blew it :)

    What next... glider, tailwheel?

I think learning gliders is a deeply useful set of skills, considering any powered plane can become a glider at a moment's notice ;) Find a commercial operation to learn gliders. They are out there, usually located at the 'good' soaring sites. Here's an example...

    Value of DME

That's a great place to be. Seems to me that many GA pilots aren't super proficient on VOR approaches these days, and in particular using two nav heads for fixes. I can speak for myself there...

    Value of DME

Imagine you lose your GPS in IMC and have to revert to VOR navigation. Think you'd appreciate a working DME then? I would.

    AOA in descending turns

Actually it is, the effective AOA of the outboard wing is lower, because the aileron is deflected upward. Likewise the inboard with is higher because the down aileron. This is why skidding turns can have the tendency to quickly develop into a spin. That higher AOA in the inside wing causes...

    AOA in descending turns

Go do some glider flying to really see the effect of this. The long wingspan and slow speed (thus small turning circle) really accentuate the tendency of the plane to overbank into the turn. That small circle and long wingspan generate a really big airpseed difference across the two wings. As...

    Oshkosh 2020

The vendors stay for the whole week in my experience. Thurs through Sunday would be a good go at it.
