    Anyone Fly RC Planes?

Thanks, I hadn't even researched it enough to realize Taranis and Frsky where the same thing. Radiomaster was the other brand I was considering. Have no idea which would be better for me. The documentation comments about Taranis is really good information, thank you. Brian

    Thinking about a T-6

That was my thought, only reason I can think to do the instrument rating just to fly the T-6 would for insurance requirement/cost. Brian

Gauging risk on an old engine

Friend of mine recently went through this with an O-320. 1st for symptom of the cam problem was a noticeable loss of power. Taking off from an airstrip he was pretty familiar with suddenly became a scary experience as he barely cleared the trees at the end, which was NOT normal. But then his...

    Anyone Fly RC Planes?

Saying I fly RC airplanes would be Generous. I did fly a few in the 80's and occasionally still manage to send one up and bring it back re-useable. My Son is much better at flying them. I think something about all those hours he spent flying the RealFlight R/C Simulator and other video games. So...

    Rachet tie down question

With a Tri-cycle gear likely true. I actually raise the tail of my glider when tying it down mostly for just that reason. Brian

    Rachet tie down question

True but, if your plane is rated for utility category it is rated for 4.4 G’s (probably) So that amount of excess lift it can generate is 1500*4.4-1500 =5100lbs. So if you want to hold the plane down until it bends something you probably want something like 2500lb straps on each wing.

Flight plan Go, TFR’s not showing

Anyone use Flight plan go and have an idea why it might not be showing TFR’s on the Sectional Chart? Thank You Brian

How do perform short field landings for practical test

We tend to overemphasize stable approaches. I tell people you will recognize an unstable approach when you see it. You probably don't even need to be a pilot to recognize it. As long as you "smoothly" reduce the power and transition to 55 kt this is fine. The only, and good, reason not to...

    ForeFlight versions

Any more that really isn't realistic, especially when you live/fly on the corner of 3 sectionals. Nobody does anything beside local flying without an EFB any more. I just doesn't make sense to buy that many sectional every 90 days, for something you are never going use again after you get your...

    Pushbutton

Usually to use the co-pilot side PTT you also have to be plugged into the co-pilot headset plugs. Most airplanes when you push the PTT switch it cuts off all the other microphones in the cockpit, so only the person pushing the PTT is heard and it reduces background noise from other microphones...

    WWII warbirds.

I think it was back about 1999 or so that airplane and a B-24 visited the Boise airport and for a few dollars we could tour through both airplanes. Was interesting the see the differences in the two planes, although I think a B-25 is probably a closer match to the HE-111. The funny part was...

    Oxygen Script?

Technically true but. I am generally not very concerned about a small oxygen leak, other than the loss of O2 while flying. Since we have had some comments about Transfilling, it is wise to point out some safety concerns about doing so. It is safe as long as a few precautions are taken, and I do...

Umbrella policies, waivers of liability to passenger question

After being involved in non-aviation event. It may actually be medical expenses. in the event I was involved with their Medical insurance company ate about 95% of the medical expenses and liability insurance only covered about 5% of it. if the injured had not had medical insurance the liability...

How do perform short field landings for practical test

I posted it on POA before but my Favorite is the Bellanca Cruisemaster Manual. The landing section says something like "Your Bellanca Cruisemaster lands conventionally, other pilots will be impressed with your landings" I guess that means if you don't impress the DPE you didn't use the...

    Custom Checklist

Anytime I check someone out a a new airplane to them with lots of systems like the Mooney., I help them create a checklist for it. It is a great way to review an understand all the systems, speeds, and configurations they need to know for the airplane. Brian

How do perform short field landings for practical test

Another part of it is #1 is a precision landing procedure i.e. touch down at a specific point as in what the ACS specifies. #2 and the the Cessna POH says is probably shorter approach allowing you to touch down sooner if the runway allows you to do so, which they commonly do when they have...

How do perform short field landings for practical test

For a check Ride I find Method #1 tends to work better. The problem with #2 is that most students tend to not hold the airplane off long enough and end up touching down short of the designated point. With #1 Method there is almost zero chance of this happening. Your normal approach is pretty...

Have you experienced an unintentional stall/spin before?

I found watching his control inputs telling. Full opposite Aileron and it continues to descent to the right. I thought it broke pretty softly, often they will break and roll a lot faster, especially with the opposite aileron. But maybe normal with no flaps and no rudder to help it break. Flaps...

Have you experienced an unintentional stall/spin before?

I have watched a couple pilots do it, one was a student pilot, the other was a private pilot doing a flight review. We had a Champ that had a really benign entry. We were doing slow flight and the left left wing slowly started to drop as the pilot adds right aileron, of course this makes it just...
