    I have the cgr30p, easy install due to no panel cutting, fit it into where the tach used to be, removed all the ancient wobbly gauges - looks 'clean'. I have no large glass panels, my instruments are all round, so the CGR30P just looks a better fit.

    easy way - down to I40, then just follow it all the way to CA. As long as the winds around ABQ are light, it'll be both straightforward and fun. Alternative is to go further south to ELP then follow I10. This has the advantage of (almost) no mountains, can actually do the whole route below...

    Hangars

    I'm based at KVGT in a (so called) shade hangar. The waiting list moves surprisingly quickly. Be aware that the word 'shade' sort of depends on which section you're in - some are orientated to allow full sun onto plane for half the day! Custom sun shades are a must here.

    Anyone with a Garmin GPS175 ?

    I've set them up so any changes I make on the 660 automatically show up on the 355. In VFR, I use the 660 as an MFD for traffic, terrain (based in Vegas). In iFR, the 660 either shows low alt airways whilst the 355 shows map, or the 660 shows (half of..) an approach plate with my little airplane...

    I've spent a few months hoping for a 'bargain' on a gdl50, failed.. Off to Copperstate fly-in later this month and if the Garmin booth doesn't have a 'deal', I'll surrender and just pay the $760 (ish inc sales tax) and finally have a cool AHRS to play with.

    Why are ODPs not required in IMC?

    I fly out of KVGT, the ODP is ALWAYS part of the clearance, even at 3am when I was the only plane airborne is the Las Vegas area, the clearance was still the ODP which takes me several miles in the opposite direction to my route of flight. Here, it has effectively become a SID..
