    Leaseback advice?

My search did not find a master thread (not saying there isn't one). I found some threads that were basically "no one will take care of your plane like you will", which is true but it is not the information I am looking for. And I found a "Leaseback advice thread" thats almost a decade old...

    Leaseback advice?

I am member of a great club that could benefit from another plane. I have an opportunity to buy a plane to fill that needed gap. Keeping in mind that: 1) I am purchasing this plane for leaseback purposes 2) I am already a member of the club, and I am comfortable with how the planes are...

    Ipad mini for foreflight

I have an IPad mini 4. I would advise that you purchase the newest you can afford. The reason, battery life. The battery on my IPad is the reason I want to move away from Foreflight once I get my IR finished. My IPad mini 4 is on its second battery and at this point has only about 1/2 the...

Is the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon still the cheapest and easiest ADS-B option?

@Jesse Saint are there any transponders you recommend for a budget install.

Is the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon still the cheapest and easiest ADS-B option?

You forgot 2 steps: - Install the stickers (Position lights must be on for ADS-B/Wireless SSID info) - Have an A&P inspect and sign off the install (if you are an owner working under supervision)

Is the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon still the cheapest and easiest ADS-B option?

I didn't realize the GDL-82 included a position source. I wonder how much installation would run on one of those.

Is the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon still the cheapest and easiest ADS-B option?

Most of them are, but I am looking at a plane next week that is not, so I want to make sure I include it in the value calculation. The challenge with the 1090mhz units (and most UAT units) is the need for a WAAS position source. At my budget, I have not looked at a single plane with a WAAS...

Pilots with Sonex experience - Talk me out of (or in to) a Sonex

At 1150 gross, with 95hp Type 4 motor, at a 5900 ft density altitude, I have no complaints about the performance we saw. It was better than I expected (and better than most small certificated planes I have flown in similar conditions). My concern was the space. With dual sticks and center...

Is the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon still the cheapest and easiest ADS-B option?

When I bought my Yankee, avionics shops were crazy busy, and the only option under $3K for adding ADS-B to a plane without a WAAS navigator was the Skybeacon/Tailbeacon. I am shopping for my next plane, and I live with 30nm of LAS. I am looking for a basic VFR plane, and am working on the...

    Explain this (AA) horse****

This pricing model is so insane that Lufthansa, United and Southwest sued a booking site that takes advantage of it (the airlines have lost so far). It's so common that the site (skiplagged.com) was created to sell the $1300 ticket to people who would then "miss" their connecting flight to save...

    If I had a spare $30k...

I'm not going to argue one way or the other (I have never flown a Cessna 120/140, but I want to). Having said that, I would argue that its cheaper (and less risk) to pay less money for a flying airplane than to pay more for a plane that has sat for 7 years. And in the one case where the flying...

    Explain this (AA) horse****

Not to undermine your frustration, I agree that the situation is insane. This is slightly off-topic, but if you are thinking about flying in consider Schaumburg, its a $40 Uber ride from ORD, or a cheaper but frustrating public transit connection (I do not understand cities that have rail...

Pilots with Sonex experience - Talk me out of (or in to) a Sonex

Thanks for the great information. According to the owner/builder, we were right at the 1150lb gross weight of the plane with him, myself and partial fuel. Most of my flying is done alone, and that is what attracts me to the Sonex. I would fly it mostly as a single seat, centerline airplane...

    If I had a spare $30k...

Yes. 4 examples $22,500 to $35,000, all currently in annual and flying (according to the ads). https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1771201-1946-Cessna-140.html?catid=17373 https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1774390-1946-Cessna-140.html?catid=17373...

Pilots with Sonex experience - Talk me out of (or in to) a Sonex

I flew a Sonex last weekend and it was a very nice plane, a trigear with a 95hp Type 4 VW (it’s for sale, message me if you are looking and I’ll put you in touch with the owner/builder). Flying out of the Kingman airport (5900’ DA) it still managed to pull off 4-500 ft per min initial climb...

    If I had a spare $30k...

Thats my thought, it looks good, but $30K for a Cessna 120 that hasn't flown in 7 years is not reasonable. For that price you can get a nice flying 120, and for less than what you will likely spend getting it back in the air (assuming nothing is major is wrong with it), you can get a good 140...

Cheapest IFR Panel - Starting from nothing?

Thats why I chose a 150, the hypothetical is putting together an IFR setup when the goal is to minimize how far underwater you are on the install.

    Fouled or Dirty Plugs

Pulling, cleaning and reinstalling plugs is considered preventative maintenance and can be performed by a Private Pilot. I would resistance test them too while they are out. Just make sure to replace or anneal the copper washers. Having said that, if this is happening often (I don't know when...

    Comfortable Ownership?

This is the most overlooked benefit of renting. When my Yankee was down for months waiting for parts dues to covid, I didn't have any sort of backup. If one of the planes in the club I fly with goes down, there are still 8 others available to me, 2 more that I could get access to with just an...

    Best places for cheap hangars?

I think this is the most overlooked part of the request. Where can I actually get a hangar? I am on waiting lists in 3 states on 2 coasts and after 5 years I never received a call.
