Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

Nothing in metal? That's a bit shocking. Considering everything that is happening in the industry with Van's, Spirit, UPS, Fedex, and even regionals having longer class dates, I'm a little concerned that if a downturn in the aviation market happens before they complete the prototype, the high...

Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

Also, I thought in a year since it was announced we would generally know more about it.

Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

I was reading that before I posted this, but I thought it better to create a new thread than necro-post.

Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

I agree, and I am not questioning the tailwind wing, its the Sonex wing that I don't understand. The gap between the wing and the windscreen that the Sonex has, but the tailwind does not, seems like it would have little impact other than to create drag on an otherwise very clean airframe.

Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

That picture doesn't do the best job of capturing the "unibrow", the wing overhanging the top of this windscreen. This one is slightly better.

Sonex High Wing "Unibrow" - What are the aerodynamic implications?

I want to build a plane one day, and the Sonex High Wing is very appealing seeing as I really like the Wittman Tailwind and the all-metal Sonex eases my concerns about "What if I can never get a hangar". When you consider that the Sonex marketing has specifically cited the Tailwind as an...

    Metal in oil filter

If you think it may be the cam, you could try to take a look. Inspecting Lycoming cams without disassembly is mentioned in this article: https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2019/march/pilot/savvy-aviator-powerplant-resurrection To quote the article: Lycomings are the toughest to...

Performance Charts for a Luscombe 8E

I don't know how much value this will have, but there was an attempt to revive the Luscombe 8F as an LSA. The resulting POH can be viewed here: https://sbc1d475377fb70be.jimcontent.com/download/version/1546528480/module/6851790559/name/Handbuch%20Luscombe%20LSA.pdf Its more "complete" by...

PPL flying in Europe (specifically Germany)

What is involved with a US PPL flying in Germany? What is required to fly German registered Microlights (Like the Rizen or other sub-600kg airplanes)?

Also, get beignets at Cafe Du Monde (its tradition), but also get them from Cafe Beignet inside Jax Brewery. They make a more yeasty beignet that I prefer (vs Cafe Du Monde's cakey beignets).

    NOLA

I used to live in New Orleans and still have family out that way. I love the city, the food is amazing. Check out Cochon Butcher, Mulates and Killer Poboys, but honestly there are so many great restaurants that those 3 aren't even a start. For those who were there more than 7-10 years ago...

Do you regularly run tanks (aux) dry?

When I flew my Yankee, I regularly ran the left tank dry. The fuel gauges were very accurate, my fuel flow meter would give me a minute or two warning before the engine stumbled and (due to the O-320) I was regularly flying it near max range. I had this fear that my fuel calculations would be...

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

I only have about 10 years in this so far, but I know that feeling. The problem is, I don't hate working on computers, I hate the amount of work I have to do to do the work on computers.

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

PCF is a good club, I finished off my tailwheel endorsement in their Citabria. But even that short time in San Diego was expensive. I can't afford to stay in San Diego and pay for flight training.

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

Curious, where are you seeing that? I've heard stories about difficulty scheduling with planes, CFIs and DPEs. But nothing about flight schools turning people away (not to say its not happening, I have been so caught up at work that I failed to notice that I lost currency).

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

We are different people, I'm not nearly as witty. But IT is a surprisingly brutal industry, made both better and worse by the pandemic. There are a lot of people burnt out by the industry right now.

Flight school train on grass strip?

Out here growing and maintaining grass is a challenge. There are some cool dirt strips, but the club I fly with won't allow me to take any of the rentals to them.

Instrument, Commercial and CFI - Budget and timeframe?

My current IT job is coming to and I find myself thinking about making a jump to full time pilot. Realistically, I am looking for my next IT job, but I have not flown as much as I want to in the last 2 years. As a PPL with 200 hours, how much time and money would I need to budget to get to CFI...
