    Cessna 172 Down at KBNA

One can get a Canadian pilot certificate with that kind of a criminal record?

How does this happen? Plane crash at towered airport not noticed for hours...

Bizarre indeed. Having flown VFR into and out of BNA several times this summer, as I recall the tower is closest to the center runway, although there are a number of buildings between the tower and the runway. I don't recall if any part of the runway was actually obscured from the tower. And...

    Stress Echo Cardiogram

Gary F has it spot on. Of course the local cardiologist convinced you you should do it. It's his bread and butter, his next mortgage payment, his....well, you get the idea. False positives in cardiac imaging are prevalent. I'm a good example of that myself. My third class SI required a...

My Flying is Going to the Dogs!

Eman, maybe they would waive the policy if you ask. One of the planes I fly, the operating agreement states no animals. But I spoke to the owner, and explained that all the dogs I fly are crated. He said fine, no problem. He was just worried about loose dogs chewing or doing their business...

    Overheard on the radio yesterday...

Flying between Carroll County, MD and Newburgh NY, a jump plane on frequency: "One minute to drop and....uhhh...well, they all just left the airplane, so I guess I meant jumpers away." It was quite a few seconds before the controller could stop laughing long enough to respond.

My Flying is Going to the Dogs!

I flew a little Yorkie last year on a PnP trip from Vermont to NY. I had another pilot along, so once we reached cruising altitude, I let her out of the crate and let the other pilot fly. She sat in my lap looking out the window until we were ready to begin the descent, and she had to return...

    KEZF-1H0 VFR only.

Well, I have done this sort of trip several times, VFR only, in both a 182 and a Mooney. I wouldn't want anything much slower than the 182, so you could do it in one day, weather-permitting. But pretty much anything with wings and an engine could do it, just a question of how much time you...

Fly in for the Massena Harvest festival

Ah, shoot...forgot that was this weekend. Would have loved to attend, but I am doing a Pilot n Paws trip that day. Next year, also consider posting in the "cool places to fly" section.

Liability Concerns Raised Over ISU President Flying

Gotta love the comment from the Regent who opined that the guy should have a co-pilot...in a Cherokee. As long as he doesn't bust that stupid stadium TFR in Ames, he should be fine...

RAM suction cup mount for full size iPad

Mike, I own the RAM suction cup mount and a full size iPad. I've tried every location I could think of in the 182, and just never could find a mounting spot I was happy with. It seemed to either block too much of the outside view, too much of the panel, or be where my head would whack it...

How to take the bite of engine failure on takeoff

First, welcome to POA! Second, do you actually do this? Sure, it offers a miniscule benefit in theory, but seems as though it opens up additional cans of worms (additional maneuvering during a high-workload time, nonstandard traffic pattern operation, plus I doubt this would ever be approved...

    Avoiding Sales/Use taxes

Well, I have not bought/sold an aircraft in NY, but as a resident of the state for the last quarter century, I'm pretty sure you aren't going to successfully evade taxes that easily. Purchasing the aircraft through an entity such as a LLC may (or may not) offer some minimal protection as far as...

JP's Ribs at Bolton Field in Columbus, OH. Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse. Hog Heaven in Nashville. Sounds like I need to make a trip to Texas...

Is 1 day at AOPA Summit worth it?

A big difference between Summit and OSH is that at Summit, most things are contained in a fairly small space. At least, that was the case when I attended at Hartford a couple years ago. On the other hand, at OSH, the exhibits, vendors and lectures are spread out over acres and you spend a lot...

    Why are Mooneys so fast?

Having just flown a 1200 nm round trip in an M20J, right around four hours each way, I felt surprisingly comfortable, once I extricated myself. After three hours in the 182, I am antsy, uncomfortable, and squirming. When I first started flying the Mooney, I didn't think the on-the-floor...

    Flew in an RV-6a

Yet another one near here today, at N03. I think this is a 7a: http://www.9wsyr.com/news/local/story/Plane-crashes-at-Cortland-County-Airport/3CRLMNNsck-x0pwDxRhzdQ.cspx?rss=112

    Nashville: BNA vs MQY

Just wanted to come back and close the loop on this thread for benefit of future readers. I did indeed end up going VFR to BNA. Since my Nashville destination was literally five minutes away, it just didn't make sense to use an outlying airport. Kept the Mooney at Signature there for four...

    Landing/Climbout altitudes for jets

Pittsburgh approach has given me a Bravo clearance while VFR right through the inner ring a couple of times without my even asking. I think I was at 5500 or 7500. Ask 'em what altitude works best for them.

Declared my first emergency the other day

Hmmm...sounds like it's not that uncommon of a failure on the Warriors. Before reading this thread, I'd never heard of it happening to anyone besides me. Interesting.
