I applied for 3rd class. Now I am too far to turn back.

It's not the PCP's responsibility to know the medical requirements for pilot medical certification. Most PCPs are stretched so thin these days they barely have time to pee during their workday. Now if your PCP happens to also be a pilot or AME, sure, they're going to know, but that's not 99%...

I request help with planning an adventure across the northern tier.

I don't have much to add to this, other than to say my boys and I flew to Rapid City last summer, and had a blast! We departed the Des Moines area, so flew over plenty of the Badlands. I remember seeing the area by car on a trip with my parents some 45 years ago, and they haven't changed much...

Great to hear Bruce! So sounds like there's hope for the OP!

    Insulin Dependent 1st Class SI

I've no useful advice, but if I were 30 years younger, I'd be in the queue, as a long-time holder of the SI for third class, prior to basic med. But I recall reading somewhere not long ago, maybe it was from Dr. Chien, I don't recall, that they had not yet issued even one first class SI...

FAA - total ignorance of logic

Brad Z is correct. As an ICU clinician who has cared for multitudes of covid patients, I can tell you with certainty that any pilot or air traffic controller admitted to an ICU with covid 19 is not likely fit to fly. These are NOT the folks with a week or two of fever, cough, body aches and...

Chance of getting 3rd class medical with tachycardia?

Dr. Chien doesn't "hold out" here for business, but it would be well worth the effort to reach out to him privately if you're anywhere near Illinois, or another proactive senior AME, and consider hiring one of them to oversee your submission. If you post where you're located, someone here could...

Does anyone own a Diamond DA-40

I'm another happy DiamondShare member with a 2019 DA40NG, which I absolutely love flying. The turbocharged Austro AE300 burns jet A, 5-6 gph, G1000 Nxi, GFC700, synthetic vision, etc. It's really a totally different airplane than the XLS. Very responsive to the controls, nothing funny in...

    TB-20 Trinidad

It was on the usual sites for a while, but as it wasn't receiving much interest during the obnoxious Syracuse winter, I let the listings expire with plans to renew shortly as spring finally approaches. It's still on socata.org.

    TB-20 Trinidad

My flying club has owned one for several years. Nice airplane, very comfortable, no big maintenance issues. I have probably a couple hundred hours in it, and have no complaints. Our A&P had previous experience with them, but aside from a few quirks, they're not difficult to work on. Ours is...

    Memphis and Nashville

Depending on where in Nashville you're going, M54 (Lebanon) is another good option. I was just there for the first time a couple weeks ago, and it was perfect. Easy in/out, brand new terminal/FBO building, and cheaper fuel than BNA, which is where I've always gone in the past.

    Flight Training upstate Ny

We use goboko.com for scheduling. One of our Archers is designated primary trainer. Of our 43 members, approximately 10 are student pilots, so it works pretty well. Limited flying days? Naaah...SYR ground ops some of the best in the country, as far as prompt snow removal and keeping the...

    Serious/fatal accident: What to do?

As another soon to take office flying club president, this is great stuff! And Nate, I'm stealing your canned message above. The last time one of our members wrecked a plane, thankfully not involving injuries, the then-president sent out a similar e-mail, but I like yours better. :)

    Certified letter from Oklahoma City

One point I haven't seen further addressed, or I missed it if it was: the requirement for treadmill stress test if >age 40, which it sounds like you are. Unfortunately, lack of medical indication for the test isn't the FAA's concern, and your endocrinologist's opinion that it is not indicated...

Is the Plane you had your first lesson in still flying???

Hard to say. Before I finished my PPL, but after I soloed, the owner suddenly got terminally ill and sold it to a private pilot a couple airports away, who shortly thereafter went off the deep end, killed his family and then himself. The plane then sat forlornly in the back of a hangar for...

    I did it.

Nice airplane! My club recently bought an '84 TB-20. I've only got about five hours in her so far, but I am pretty impressed. It's by far the most comfortable airplane I've ever flown. We've had a few maintenance issues, and while most of the parts are supposedly available from US...

    insulin pumps

Having done that myself a few years ago, it was pretty simple. Just a matter of fine-tuning the basal and bolus rates/doses over a few days. I don't think I ceased flying for more than a week, although your situation may differ. No specific downtime is required.

Doing the math - buy a trainer to train, or rent

Jeff, just a few points: First, the club of which you speak (full disclosure for the rest of the board, I am an officer in it, and the OP and I have previously communicated) charges $95 per Hobbs hour (not $110) for the 140, in which all primary training is conducted. And second, if you buy a...

    C150 down in NY

I live and fly in the area, and work in the town where the aircraft was based. I was actually in the air that day, and weather was definitely not an issue. The terrain in the area is not terribly inhospitable. Local speculation is that the crash was the result of a spin, but that's yet to be...

FS: Lightspeed Zulu 2, nearly brand new

I have a Lightspeed Zulu 2 headset which I purchased for my partner at Oshkosh a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, she just doesn't like it. I already have a Bose, so I have no need for the Lightspeed. It's only been used twice, and is absolutely in pristine condition. It's the dual plug...
