    Time for an Eng. Overhaul?

The engine overhaul on my previous 150 was just over $11k, but the case had to be repaired and a few parts failed. All the moving parts were done at Divco/Rick Romans and other reputable shops. Engine overhauls are a ripoff.

    Pilot job

Nope. There will be single pilot planes first, and they will start in cargo first. Nothing in the pipeline though for at least 10 years. Also. There's the passenger opinion. Would you board a pilotless airplane?

    Pilot job

Assuming no 9/11 type event, AA will have a real shortage starting around 2021 when they retire 800+ pilots a year for 5-6 years straight.

    I did the unthinkable...

Fact in life: You'll have at least 1-2 "major" maintenance events per year if you use your plane for 50-70 hours. Count 2-5k for those. It's still cheap to own an airplane.

[NA] Best cut for a steak?

Yeah, American "Kobe" is BS. USA is one of the few developed countries in the world that don't respect any of the international trademark/protected origin laws. So that's why you can have "Kobe burgers" here. Which have nothing to do with real Kobe beef. This stuff is almost orgastic. 4oz...

    Big Preflight Mistake

How about. Go fly "just one leg". Plane breaks down. Overnight. Fly 7 legs the next day. In the same clothes. It was 100 degrees. I heard this happened to... "a friend of mine".

Oh, totally. Couldn't agree more. That's why my DPE kinda laughed it off. I had a great DPE.

New Lap Record at der Nürburgring - Nordschleife

The cool thing about the 'ring is, that there is no perfect lap around it. It's too long to drive it 100% all the time. The trick is to make the mistakes in the parts where they don't cost you that much time. Screw up Galgenkopf and Döttinger Höhe, and there goes your lap. Or Bergwerk, that's...

    Commercial Oral Prep - Recommendations?

Lazy 8's are another easy one to fail on if DPE is sharp on the ACS criteria. But power off 180 is the tricky one. A nice DPE will let you save a bad p-o-180 and give you credit for short field, and try it again. Big one is 119.1(e), know that one. Know constant speed prop. What happens if you...

[NA] Best cut for a steak?

Sorry for the pornographic picture. You don't need much of a sear/char on real Japanese Wagyu. There is so much intramuscular fat that it very quickly starts to boil instead of searing when the fat renders and melts. Maillard reaction isn't that critical on meat with such a huge amount of fat...

Dual GTN 750's or GTN750/650 Combo

Most of our PC12's have 650/750 and it's a great pair. The huge downside is the lack of VNAV (let's face it, the way it does it is not really a VNAV at all). I'm also pretty sure you can't couple an autopilot to the VNAV, it's advisory only. I've never felt I needed 750/750, 650/750 is plenty.
