How stable/recession proof is ISR flying?

Short for - flying a King Air in countries that likely end with -stan, making mid-range airline pilot salary and being on tour months and months at a time.

Microburst - Vy or pitch angle?

Wtf? The first thing to do is you turn ON the autothrottles. "windshear, TOGA". And definitely no 90 degree turns. THOSE will kill you.

Lion air crash - TOMATO FLAMES

There is no such thing as "unrecoverable dive" in a Part 25 plane. The regs require reasonable forces (I think it was 125lbs for a 1.5G recovery) from a full nosedown dive (Vdf speed).

    St Barths anybody?

I just want to proactively apologize for all the VFR flight plans we forget to cancel this season :D

ZSU sounds like you're ATC? I must have talked to you many times then :) "Goodspeed 107, starting VFR descent".

    St Barths anybody?

If we are talking about the same person, she's at Endeavor now. There was another girl who ticks those boxes, she found a unicorn 91 job in FL. Yeah, TW is in a class of it's own in the area. There are guys there who will be there until retirement. It's a career gig if you can handle the island...

    St Barths anybody?

If she is who I think she is, she's long gone. Tradewind is pretty dang far from typical of the area gig. It's by far the best gig in SJU.

PIC starts at 60k + per diem and the usual benefits. Paid as a salary so hours flown don't matter. 4-3 schedule. With the usual amount of per diem, overtime and overnights, you should pretty easily hit 80k first year. Any work on a day off pays $600 for a PIC. Plenty of overtime available during...

    St Barths anybody?

Anguilla was wiped out pretty badly by Irma. Many big resorts are re-opening this year so hopefully the island will be a bit more lively this season. It's a beautiful island, but was pretty much a ghost town most of last season.

    St Barths anybody?

I've been with the company for a year. I was in the Caribbean for 6 months.

Good luck! It's an amazing job!

They say you should start applying when you have around 850 hours. 900 is competitive.

    St Barths anybody?

It's an intense maneuver, it's low level aerobatics. You bank the plane to a 45-50 degree bank and push the nose down (which feels fun at ~150ft AGL), go full power, and start a climbing right turn to get out of the cove where the airport is. There is a hill to the right you need to clear...

@Shamir how are you my friend! Good to see you here! Not gonna say anything about the stick shaker on that video :D

Anyone use a Come to you School?

I would also like to add, that I would avoid hiring an instructor who is not current/proficient in the operation you intend to do. If you intend to fly 121/135/91k, don't hire a career CFII who has no recent experience with these operations. It's a massive waste of money.

Anyone use a Come to you School?

I just don't see where you waste all that time. Instrument flying is super easy. The PIC method assumes you own your own airplane. Doing it in a new-to-you plane would be insane. 15 hours is a long time to practice IR syllabus when you already know how to fly your plane with your eyes closed...

Anyone use a Come to you School?

I'm an average pilot, and after 15 hours of dual instrument (3 during my private and 12 for the IR ride), I was more than prepared for my checkride. I enjoyed my instrument training. It was fun. And I do consider myself a very thoroughly well-rounded instrument pilot. My personal minimums are...

Anyone use a Come to you School?

You approach this from a different perspective. When you own your own airplane, unless you are living in BFE, why would you want to hire a CFII who has to be gone for 10 days, why not find someone local? The way I think about it is - why would I want to pay you to travel for 10 days to see me...

Anyone use a Come to you School?

When you own your own airplane, why the heck would you do your IR with a local flight school? To me, PIC sounds like it's a very expensive CFI who comes with a packaged syllabus which may or may not work for you. I would have HATED the PIC method.

Anyone use a Come to you School?

My friend @BrianNC knows exactly how I did it. Great CFII (thanks @Lance F !). I don't think I have any skills above average, but it took me 12 hours of instruction (plus the 3 for my private) and a few (2-3) ground hours , and that was it.
