1966 Cessna 150F pilot seat AD

I'm still wondering why this AD applies to the 150. Unless you are 4 foot nothing, if the seat slides all the way back, it's not a big deal.

Commercial Long XC Question (# of Airports)

Ed was just showing he doesn't teach Commercial pilots. Or he doesn't know what ATP standards are. Cutting the tolerances in half makes much more sense than what he was saying.

Commercial Long XC Question (# of Airports)

I used CP->ATP, which Ed mentioned, as an example because the standards are exactly the same for the few maneuvers that are in both rides. So saying "If they're going for commercial they have to fly to ATP standards before I sign them off." makes no sense.

Commercial Long XC Question (# of Airports)

I just tried to make it obvious that "holding to standards of a higher certificate" doesn't really make any sense as a blanket statement. (re. ME commercial but wanting ATP ME standards).

Commercial Long XC Question (# of Airports)

How are those SE go-arounds going for them? Killing many students lately? Or do you just cherry pick the standards you use?

Pretty sure every airline in the US issues type ratings with "Circling Approach VMC only" limitation.

    Rare aircraft spotting: Adam A500

Cessna: "Hey, I think we nailed it. We made the weirdest looking small GA plane ever, the 337" Adam: "Hold my beer..." I've seen one in person once. They look really cool in a weird way.

Yes, you have to remember that the plane zipping at 450kts probably has his indicated airspeed in the mid 200's in very thin air.

You push the nose down, you don't have any excess power. You will easily lose around 3000-4000ft of altitude on the recovery.

The envelope between redline and stick shaker gets pretty narrow high up when you're heavy. The plane I fly, for example, at 85'000lbs and FL410 has a speed envelope of 25kts between the redlines. You cannot even turn the plane without losing altitude at that point. 1.3g moderate turbulence...

Yes it is. It really is. Especially when you're heavy.

Yeah got it now. Energy management is vastly different in a high performance jet. You can't maneuver them the way you can a piston plane. That's why the "piston" way to fly a circle isn't really applicable. Descending to MDA and then circling when you hit the circle radius often is impossible...

Ok, I thought you meant you'd fly a circle like that in a jet. That's scary.

Just so we are all on the same page - have you ever flown a circle in a jet?

Seconded. That's scary in a jet.

This. It's actually a fun maneuver to fly, and not dramatic at all. It's more of a dogleg base to final from an ILS. I'd love to see how these guys would've flown the river visual to DCA...

That way you will never get in to KTEB. ILS 6 circle 1 is the only thing they will give you on a day like that. You ask for an overhead entry and they will die laughing at you.
