    Neuropsychological Testing Complete

I completely agree on both points. However, if the FAA is looking for evidence of ADHD (or any other limitation) and they know that Test [Z] is a good means of evaluating whether or not a test subject has ADHD (or any other limitation) then, objectively, it seems like a good idea to apply the test.

    Neuropsychological Testing Complete

I asked my HIMS neuropsych what this was supposed to test. His response was focus and concentration. Most people with ADHD can't focus on such a simple task for such a long time. To the FAA failing this test, one of many, is--according to the HIMS neuropsych--a good indicator that a testee's...

"Straight for the numbers" with not much room for even a short final

Honestly, if tower had asked for that, I would have been more comfortable. I’ve made short approaches before but have always been further away from the threshold for at least some sort of base to (short) final.

"Straight for the numbers" with not much room for even a short final

There's three tall, blue silos, very visible from the air, and well known to most local pilots. I didn't need to go out of my way. It was an easy thing to do for them.

    Neuropsychological Testing Complete

Your experience was similar to mine, except about $1500 cheaper! Of note is that after I had taken my neuropsych exam, my HIMS neuro was waiting on my FAA medical file, too. I had request it about a month prior to my visit. After my exam, I called the RFS in Des Moines, WA, and the woman who...

"Straight for the numbers" with not much room for even a short final

I'm a low-time pilot; I have all of 120hrs under my belt thus far. I was out for a flight a few weeks ago and on my way inbound to Bozeman (I had been told to expect a left-downwind for runway 30), there was a fire burning at a well-known local landmark (here circled in red) that tower asked me...

Airman Inquiry change in medical status

Yeah, it was painful at times, but I was confident that the certificate would arrive if I could be patient. I kept flying with my CFI twice/month and knocked out everything I could. When the certificate arrived, all I had left to do was polishing off some maneuvers, all solo work, and checkride...

Airman Inquiry change in medical status

When I was waiting on my 3rd class, I had been calling regularly to check on progress. At one point, I noticed that my airmen registry information said I had a 3rd class so I called OKC to ask about it. Like you, I was told that it was "still in review" and to "expect something soon." A week...

    Possession charges with intent

Similar story here, as a passenger with a good friend driving who was also in recovery. We got pulled over leaving a midnight meeting in a diverse part of town. My friend used to roll his own cigarettes which meant rolling papers and a rolling "machine" in his car, visible in the backseat, but...

    SI Submitted

Sorry. $75/test. They email the results to me and fax the results to my HIMS AME. Before I started, I shopped around. I found a local testing company (that does a lot of drug testing for local courts and state DOT) and asked what they'd charge for ongoing testing that meets the panel required...

    SI Submitted

Exactly. To my knowledge, there isn't a way for the FAA to prevent someone switching to Basic Med unless, of course, they didn't comply with all of the rules of their SI. I took that to be the case as well. I have no real desire to attempt commercial flight but I would like to fly into Canada...

    SI Submitted

Random, unannounced urine screens, 14 every 12 months. Signed AA logs, minimum of twice/week. (I already go to more than this as a matter of course but I get my “sheet signed”) Meet with my HIMS AME once/quarter with every-other meeting in person. (He’s a four-hour drive from me in non-winter...

    SI Submitted

My 3rd class application for a substance-dependence SI was submitted in mid-March 2021 and I received my SI in late July. I had 20 years sobriety when my application was submitted. I'm also 3rd class and lower down on the priority list than a 1st class so yours may go faster.

    Finally doing it..

I had the same feeling a few months ago after I got my 3rd class medical certificate. Everything suddenly felt much more real! Like you, I had kept on training over the 54 weeks it took to get my medical but it took a solid 9 hours or so to get back "up to speed" for a pre-solo stage check (and...

    PIREPs KEKS (Big Sky, MT)?

What would you consider as the winds being up for this route? I'm a recently-certificated PPL and am planning on making a day trip to KJAC in a few weeks. I'd love to fly through the Paradise Valley and over all of YNP to get to Jackson, but have heard that winds at Gardiner can just be silly...

    PIREPs KEKS (Big Sky, MT)?

Although I have not flown through Raynolds Pass over Henry's Lake, going up and over Island Park through Raynolds Pass and into the Madison Valley is how my CFI and I flight planned for a flight from KBZN to KIDA and this in a 172/180. Other pilots I know that have flown into KBZN from the south...

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

That sucks. I'm really sorry. I wish I could offer more than just empathy.

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

For those of you who have been following along at home and for those who may stumble into this thread in the future, I wanted to put on a bow on all of this and wrap it up. I don't want to sum the financial impact of being deferred, seeing the HIMS neuropsych, having several monthly HIMS visits...
