What's going on with these clouds?

Holy smokes! Comprehensive answer. Thanks so much for this explanation (and the introduction to a figure I don't understand at all)!

    Request for medical Documents

I am in the HIMS program for a SI 3rd class. Prior to submitting requests for 3rd class, my HIMS neuropsych and HIMS AME both needed to see my FAA file. When I requested copies for them, I requested one for myself. The file includes everything I had sent to them as well as everything they had...

What's going on with these clouds?

So it wasn't necessarily a "stable" layer on top but simply lack of energy to grow much higher.

What's going on with these clouds?

Topographic lifting, yes, without a doubt. We learn about that early on in our PPL when you learn to fly in the Rockies! "Cloudy and wet" are relative, I take it? It was nearly dry as a bone yesterday; relative humidity when I took the time-lapse was 15-20%. The top image on Page 17 of the...

What's going on with these clouds?

Relative humidity yesterday at 2pm local was 15-20% so a definite possibility.

What's going on with these clouds?

I took this time lapse yesterday after noticing that the clouds seemed to be building, but not going anywhere while out with my dog. This is in Bozeman and these mountains are the south end of the Bridger Range. I'm sure I've seen this a thousand times but this is the first time I thought to get...

    DUI conviction medical ETA?

This is my story, start to finish, about getting a 3rd class medical after a DUI and prolonged abstinence and recovery. I have a HIMS 3rd class SI. My DUI was in 1999 and I have not had any mood or mind-altering chemicals since March 2001 and have been active in recovery since then. CAMI only...

Recovering Opiate Addict - Go Straight to HIMS AME?

I have a 3rd class medical with a Special Issuance; you can read my story from start to finish here. I've been active in recovery for 21.5 years now and am still required to pee in a cup randomly, 14 times every 12 months, and have an AA attendance sheet signed. Prior to having an SI, I was...

Flight planning assistance: Bozeman, MT to Prescott, AZ in a C172

Apparently, I should plan for some bumps! We've talked it over and based upon what we're reading here, we may aim to make it over two days: leave silly early on day 1, down by noon-ish, then leave silly early on day 2, down by 9am in Prescott. Of course, that's all dependent upon all of the...

    FAQ: DUI's and alcohol/drug abuse

I'd like this too, but I'm fairly certain it won't happen. If it does happen for you, I'll be terribly jealous!

Flight planning assistance: Bozeman, MT to Prescott, AZ in a C172

The photos you've shared are similar to what Bozeman and most of SW Montana were like last summer. If the smoke ends up rolling in that thick later on in July or early Aug, we'll likely bail before even leaving Bozeman. If it comes in while we're en route, we'll land and rent a car.

Flight planning assistance: Bozeman, MT to Prescott, AZ in a C172

My fiance and I (153.6TT, 94.5PIC) would like to fly to Prescott, AZ, in August (!) in one of the club's 180hp C172. She's starting an online graduate program and needs to be down there for some sort of student colloquium. Rather than fly commercial or drive, her first thought was maybe...

"Straight for the numbers" with not much room for even a short final

This is definitely something I'd do with a CFI first! As it is, if I find myself high coming out of the base-to-final turn, I will throw in a slip on final. Makes it easy to bleed off any excess altitude really easily. The short version of a very long story is that I was excessively high on my...

"Straight for the numbers" with not much room for even a short final

I was able to redeem myself last night. I've been practicing some non-standard approaches at other fields recently and the last few times I've been flying back to my home airport, I've had more of "straight to the numbers." Last night I was three miles northwest-ish, 2K' above pattern altitude...

    Medical DWI 20 years ago

Thus the clause "with supporting documentation" in my original post. You're right though; regardless of documentation, you'd still have to convince the AME that there's no other signs of substance abuse issues. It sounds like potential airman had the information but didn't present it to the...

    Medical DWI 20 years ago

Based upon my very limited knowledge of the deferral process for DUIs, this is either a clear ****-up by the AME or there's more to the story. If this were well and truly the only alcohol-related even in OPs life AND they blew <= 0.15, this was issuable in-office, with supporting documentation...

Request for Airman Medical Records timing

If by "recent" you accept late 2020, I sent my request by fax and 6 weeks out there was still no movement. I called the RFS in Des Moines, WA, after those 6 weeks and mentioned that the HIMS Neuropsych was waiting on those records to file his report. The friendly lady at the RFS contacted OKC...

SI Class 1 for ADHD...now what????

Yeah, it all sucks. I get my SI for 6months at a time, too, and have to pay a lab to test my urine for drugs and alcohol even though I've been sober for >21 years now. These are the hoops we have to jump through if we want the medical.
