Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

Thanks for asking. Intellectually stimulating, to say the least. More waiting, of course, but the TL;DR is that ultimately, he saw only good things in the testing. In all, the testing took a little over 6 hours (not including a break for lunch), measuring a ton of stuff, many tests that must...

    HIMS 1st Class Medical Maze

I disagree. I find solace and restoration in spiritual principles that are hugely different from worshipping any sort of religious deity. It works for me. Something else might work better for you and a whole host of other people. That’s cool. Go find it, go work it, and have a great life! I’m...

    HIMS 1st Class Medical Maze

Sure, from a legal standpoint, the argument has been made and accepted that AA is a religious program. The first time I read the blue book, I put a line through each "G" to indicate lower case because I was ardently opposed to participating in a "religious" program. I bristle when old-timers...

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

Thanks for the heads up. I had been through the demand process back in August. Original application for 3rd class was deferred in early July, they asked for additional information at the end of July, and denied me in mid-Sept with the letter and reconsideration instructions above.

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

2020-10-01: I called CAMI today to make sure they had received the fax I sent regarding release of my FAA airman medical records to my HIMS AME, neuropsych, and myself. They had, and when I asked Tammy how long the processing of those release forms and subsequent mailings take, she said that the...

    HIMS 1st Class Medical Maze

No idea. I'd ask a HIMS AME. AA has religious overtones, sure, but I think it's easy to look past them. A lot of old-timers, however, still insist on using Judeo-Christian dogma in their meetings and say "wah-wah-wah! but you don't know the history!" when I suggest dropping it. History...

    HIMS 1st Class Medical Maze

We're on different sides, but have the same attitude: I haven't had so much as a parking ticket in >19 years either but would gladly take mandated twice/week AA meetings (as I already attend more than that) rather than UA and any sort of annual psych exam. Regardless, as I hope to have my...

What steps can I take in the next few years to have a chance at a third class? Past substance/alcoho

:eek2: What has it been that's caused such a delay? Was this a function of having to document two years of sobriety before they would even give you consideration?

    Visiting ATC?

Tried to get a tour back in July shortly after I started training but discovered this to be the case. Will definitely be interested in touring the facility when (if?) it ever opens back up to tours! Also glad to hear that if I have questions about ATC, I can always just call the tower when I'm...

Student pilot: 21 year old DUI, sober for 19 years, active in recovery

I learned I was being denied outright a 3rd class medical exam two weeks ago (2020-09-10) but received the letter from the FAA today. Pages one and two (deidentified) below, if you're curious. Definitely could have been more onerous--and I've seen the onerous versions of this letter. At a...
