    Neuropsychological Tests

Yes, but only if you don’t answer honestly. It’s referred to as the MMPI, Minnesota multiphasic personality inventory or something. ETA: Link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Multiphasic_Personality_Inventory

    Neuropsychological Tests

Before I took the full battery a few years ago, I asked the doc a similar question. Their response was “not really. Just get a good night’s sleep before and have some breakfast before the testing.”

    Neuropsychological Tests

I found the full neuropsych interesting and intellectually stimulating. It was almost enjoyable! Note that you can’t receive the test scores, but you should be able to get your doc’s write up they send the FAA which includes thier interpretation of your results.

Looking for list of HIMS psychiatrists in California

Generally, you have to start your search for a HIMS psychiatrist with a HIMS AME. I don't think the FAA publishes the list of HIMS psychiatrists.

    Neuropsychological Tests

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I thought the full battery included the cogscreen? Or did you mean to say that neither of the doctors will perform the cogscreen as a one-off?

    Neuropsychological Tests

I was required to take the full neuropsych battery in 2020 to pass my 3rd class. The best advice I got was from my HIMS neuropsych who said "get a good nights' sleep the night before and make sure to have breakfast." I did a write up on the testing back then but basically it boiled down to if...

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

Thanks for the citation. I pulled out my tabbed FAR/AIM and had it all highlighted and tabbed, but had forgotten about it.

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

Ooh. I didn't know this. I thought you had to have the Class II for the checkride. Great info, here! Thanks!

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

I'd like to finish up IFR before anything else! Although I'd love to have a commercial rating, I fly on Basic Med so getting paid to "fly" sounds like it'll never be in the cards. During my flight review last fall, my instructor (who is now my CFII) did some commercial work with me; it was...

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

To be fair, they didn't want to "hire" me. They needed a ride in a limited amount of time from Point A to Point B across a very big state to participate in a July 4 parade. I said I had a plane and could get them there in the time allowed. Then, upon further research, it turns out that I cannot...

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

Thanks for the replies. This has been eye-opening. Most interesting are the fact that both my CFI and my DPE called out that a private pilot can't receive compensation except when carrying candidates in elections! After doing some digging, it seems the whole thing may be moot in my case. The...

Private pilot flying a candidate in a federal election

I am a PPL that flies in C172s. I know my limitations as a PPL when it comes to flying friends/family around who want to split costs with me, pro rata share, yadda yadda. Now, however, I volunteered to fly a candidate in a federal election from Airport A to Airport B, about a two-hour flight...

Starting PPL process - 15 years post-substance abuse

Here's my story: https://www.pilotsofamerica.com/community/threads/student-pilot-21-year-old-dui-sober-for-19-years-active-in-recovery.126871/ I was in your same boat: mid-40s, interested in obtaining a PPL with no desire to go commercial, and had been sober and in recovery for 19 years (at the...

    Class 3 - Sober 13 Years - No DUIs

When I was kicked into HIMS and asked to do random monitoring, I simply googled "drug testing labs in [my city]." I found several, contacted one, told them what was up, what I needed, and they said "no problem. We've done this for other pilots, too." Because I had to do so many tests, they even...

    Abuse vs dependence

Have you gotten any information back from CAMI about your alcohol abuse? I don't know what you can "expect" but I suspect that the FAA will probably want you to continue the random monitoring (i.e., "trust, but verify.") Good luck!

    Class 3 - Sober 13 Years - No DUIs

Maybe? My guess will be they'll give you the "we can't give you a 3rd class medical but you can apply through the HIMS program." That will kind of restart the clock and you'll have to find a HIMS AME, get on the FAA's bandwagon (with 13 years' sober, maybe "get your sheet signed" at AA meetings...

Flight planning assistance: Bozeman, MT to Prescott, AZ in a C172

OP did NOT do the trip. The university my (then fiance) wife attends changed that meeting to an online-only function because of COVID fears. Bummer for us because we were going to make a fun trip out of it, but it negated the entirety of my (fun) flight planning exercise. We still have hopes...

What's the best way to start instrument training?

Great information here and a lot of input from a number of different folks. Thank for all of the thoughtful contributions. I'm doing my first BFR this month and my (relatively) new CFI (who is also the person responsible for connecting me with the club of which I am a member) is taking his CFII...
