Sumping fuel in the desert/preflight checklists?

Each flight? If you stop for lunch and don’t take on fuel do you still sump? What about if your plane is stored in a hangar and haven’t taken on fuel since last flight? Always sump after fueling, no question. But I rarely see pilots sump after lunch, especially pilots flying the 172s with 12...

    AERA 660 issues

Just to be clear, you are at the latest firmware version (4.00)? The Aera 660 firmware is slow to be updated, last update was in 2023, so it’s due. I would try clearing the active track, and then checking it afterwards, does it show a bunch of disjointed tracks?

Ahhh, so the panel mount you mentioned is only supplying power?

    AERA 660 issues

What are you connecting the Aero to? GPS navigator? I’m linked to the G3X and it works fine, I wonder if its a protocol issue.

Check the GPS info (shows satellite reception ) page next time this happens.

    How accurate are garmin avionics?

Did you check the GPS info page, it gives you satellite connections and accuracy estimate, if it loses connections its accuracy quickly degrades.

Why Alkaline Batteries are not in my flight bag

You can’t wear one of those headlamps without looking like a geek. ;-)

Why Alkaline Batteries are not in my flight bag

The rechargeables seem to last a long time, I have some over 10 years old, they will eventually not be able to be charged, but they don’t leak. It’s funny some devices explicitly mention not to use rechargeables when they clearly work just fine.

Is it mandatory to perform a new weight and balance after a paint job?

No way. How dirty do you let your plane get? I just cleaned mine, and even including the paper towels it wouldn’t add up to a pound.

Five members of Georgia family killed (Piper PA-46 crash)

FIFY, as a general rule the key is to fly early before the afternoon storms start to develop, or early evening after they start to dissipate.

Is it mandatory to perform a new weight and balance after a paint job?

I put all the W&B into a spreadsheet and found about 20 errors out of 100 entries, transposing digits, missing, math errors…but when all was said and done, it was only off by 2 lbs. I put it in my POH for future reference.

Is it mandatory to perform a new weight and balance after a paint job?

To keep the weight of the paint to a minimum don’t put stripes, etc on your control surfaces. First they paint the base color, then the stripes. I wonder how much weight a paint job adds? I agree stripping the original paint is required, the PO of my plane did a cheap job and it didn’t last 10...

For Sale: Aircraft For Sale - 1976 Piper Archer II in San Diego

I’ve given up trying to figure plane prices out, here is a 81 Mooney J, for the low low price of $348750. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?make=MOONEY&model_group=MOONEY+M20+SERIES&model=M20J+201&listing_id=2431320&s-type=aircraft I think I need to sell my plane if this is representative...

    Advice for loooooong cross-country

Don’t let the clock/calendar dictate when and route you fly, schedule based on weather (that includes winds). Land at airports that have maintenance shops unless you’re an AP and will be carrying your own tools. I’ve had good luck with the southern route, try to get through the mountains in the...

    Run up area

I was taught to line up from arrival end, the idea is first in, first out, so planes don’t have to cross in front of each other. If you’re going to take a long time then maybe you should do it differently.

    I’m calling the peak

I track just the Mooney M20J, since April 9 the average price has gone up slightly. I don’t know how sophisticated your data mining is, but 1 example is one of the M20J listings is for a fractional ownership, so the price is 1/2 of the value of the plane. So if counting it without adjusting...
