    Anyone available to review logbooks?

Many POA members here remember when 20 year old aircraft with 5000 hours was a big deal. Many of those aircraft only had about ten pages of logbook entries. Many of those aircraft had 6 or so form 337s. Today aircraft are commonly +50 years old and have 3 or 4 logbooks with hundreds of entries...

    Continental 0470 R - Cylinder Replacement Inevitable?

The engines are engineered to operate at 75% or more power. Run the engines at the upper range of design operating temperatures and RPMs. The valve opening and closing timing is set for +75% power. The magneto timing is set for 75% power. When operating the engine less then that it does not...

    Continental 0470 R - Cylinder Replacement Inevitable?

I don't know what to say, the commercial outfit I work with never have cylinder trouble with that vintage of O-470's. Maybe we just are not as smart as your buddy. We get 2400 hours out of our Cessnas on floats with those engines. Of course they are flown commercially and not private. Private...

    Continental A75 reassembly/overhaul....

About six months ago we called every overhaul outfit listed in trade-a-plane, internet searches, friends of friends and Continental Motors. Definitely post any shop that is interested in overhauling the Continental C-?? engines. One outfit offered to overhaul the C-85 but, told us they are...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

Service Bulletin (SB) 1375D page 8 shows the gear casting in a graphic and calls it a 'Cylinder'. The distances between the spar flanges and the cylinder flanges need to be the same. Every time the plane lands it pushes up on the upper spar flange and 'Pulls' on the bolts going through the...

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

It's common. There's a lot of high time commercially used Cherokees in Alaska.

    Cherokee Landing Gear Bolts -AGAIN!

The landing gear casting fits in between the spar flanges. Sometimes the dimensions are a little off. If after tightening the top bolts there's just a little gap between the landing gear casting flange and the spar flange a shim should be made and inserted. Use a feeler gauge and measure that...

    Inspecting aircraft parts

This has been a common question for the last 100 years. Yes, every aircraft and every part should be cleaned, paint removed and inspected with the latest and greatest Non Destructive Testing (NDT) practice. Are you willing to pay $110/hour for every part to be cleaned and inspected each year?

Best first plane for under $100k

It doesn't take much Density Altitude (DA) to diminish a 4 place 160 hp aircraft performance. 180 hp is not the best answer but at 7000 feet DA the aircraft still gives enough performance to carry two people and enough fuel. You really don't want to cut back on fuel quantity in trade for IFR...

Best first plane for under $100k

Couple things that I believe are important for getting an IFR aircraft is: Minimum of 180HP and parts availability. When doing departures and altitude flying you need enough power that you can fulfill the request of the controllers and departure procedures. Many aircraft are not supported...

What Happens with External 3 Pin Power

Found a 182P POH online. The instructions for 'Ground Service Plug Receptacle' is in the back Section 7. The only instruction is to have the master ON when plugging into the Receptacle. From the schematic the Plug Power would charge the battery when the Master is ON. The down side to charging...

    Airline Exit Rows

Yeah, the phone dinging bombardment is not really changing my life. They're is bigger problems in the world then up-selling phone messages. I like the 'Super Special Deals' enough to put up with the noise.

What Happens with External 3 Pin Power

Not all aircraft shore plug power are created equal. Look up the schematic in your Aircraft's Maintenance Manual, take a picture of it and post it here. Cessna, Beech and Piper did all combinations to different model years. Only the correct schematic analysis can say for sure.

Is there a pilots emergency landing phone app!

I use FlightAware notification page. https://www.flightaware.com/me/ Works by sending a text to someones phone every time the aircraft stops flying. It can be set up to text or email every time the ADS-b equipped aircraft takes-off also. Pick a person that you want to receive the text and set...
