    Oshkosh 2023 Planning help

Watch the EAA videos of what an arrival looks like: https://www.eaa.org/airventure/eaa-fly-in-flying-to-oshkosh/eaa-airventure-oshkosh-notam. Better yet, go on youtube and search for Oshkosh arrival videos. You'll see the real thing, with pilots/passengers swiveling their heads like something...

    Oshkosh 2023 Planning help

A couple years ago, we managed to get a slot ~3 hours from when we called, but it was the Thursday before the show after the NOTAM went into effect. We had flown IFR from Maryland to Sportys (I69), then IFR to Dupage (smoke was pretty bad plus rain showers), landed in KDPA/Dupage, thinking we...

A little glycol and they're good to go.

    1st family trip

You're allowed to say "Unable". Sounds like you handled it well, but overshooting at a busy, unfamiliar airport, in a steep turn, in a hurry, is a recipe for stall-spin on base to final.

Regional Airline Applicant with Upcoming Driving Violation. Advice needed!

Since another thread mentions ChatGPT, I figured I'd let it weigh in: :D "Son, I know you may have thought you were just going with the flow of traffic, but going 91 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone is extremely dangerous and illegal. Not only did you put yourself at risk, but you also...

Wings of Hope Spring 2023 Raffle

They used to start the raffle at 6 am CT, which worked out much better for East Coast, bad for west coast. The new 12 am CT isn't so awful since tickets don't sell out like they used to since they raised the price. Besides the winners seem to always be someone with 10 aircraft already, 6 of...

    Aviation Writer Gordon Baxter

Him and Lane Wallace were my favorite two aviation writers. I stopped getting Flying magazine because they were gone and the rest of the articles were about expensive, complex planes that I'd never be able to afford or fly. AOPA's magazine is going the same way... Flying is not just about...

    Katie’s at CGE closing

On her Facebook post, she said she and her employees were "devastated". Maybe it's not Kate's decision.

    Sun 'n Fun 2023

I'm actually glad to hear that! But here's an article (see about halfway down) that also mentions possible encroachment (https://www.planeandpilotmag.com/news/opinion/2022/04/14/going-direct-reflections-on-a-very-strange-sun-n-fun/). Maybe it's just FUD. But there's also some articles that...

    Sun 'n Fun 2023

Friend went last year. Said noise from Amazon jets going in/out in the middle of the night is significant. Also SnF is losing space due to Amazon expanding. She believes SnF's days at Lakeland are coming to a close.

Most Memorable Flight or Moment of 2022

I checked out in a C172 at Wausau, WI (KAUW), and then flew over the old family farm and cabin up near Merrill, Tomahawk, and Gleason. Dreamed of doing that ever since I was a kid.

    What happened to Southwest?

Found this on reddit. Echoes what @Sluggo63 wrote: “I have friends in CS and the hotel assignment side too. There were 2 specific problems, the software for scheduling is woefully antiquated by at least 20 years. No app/internet options, all manual entry and it has settings that you DO NOT...

    What happened to Southwest?

From the news reports, Southwest has "melted down" during this winter storm. (https://www.npr.org/2022/12/26/1145536902/southwest-cancels-nearly-2-800-flights-in-a-full-blown-meltdown). Even the Transportation Department has gotten into criticizing them...

    Actual track of lazy 8s

Yep. It's not clear how they level out without any aileron input. Maybe they start the bank, then neutralize the ailerons and let the initial bank continue as the airspeed decreases. Still seems like you should roll out at the end with ailerons.

What is the demand for CFI who teaches upset recovery/aerobatics?

For a place that teaches spins/upset training, see CP Aviation (https://www.cpaviation.com/) at Santa Paula airport (KSZP). Maybe they could use instructors if you live out that way (CA).
