    When the G5 HSI is in HDG mode and the AP is HDG mode the aircraft flys the the heading. HDG mode does not correct for wind. In GPSS mode the aircraft will fly on the GPS plan and effectively correct for winds.

    Vibrations and the glass cockpit

    Yes, I believe the vibration levels on some platforms can cause equipment issues. The MIL and TSO equipment can handle Shock and vibrations better. I used to design systems for Naval Frigate SH-2 Helicopters and they had a life of shock and vibration. I'd much rather have fully qualified systems.

    I am running into the same with the G5 not powering on reliably when turning it off then back on. Someone on another thread said it was a known issue and if you hold the power button for 10 seconds it will come back on.

    GPSS is so nice. The airplane follows the flight plan perfectly including correcting for wind. No more constantly adjusting your heading to stay on course. Love it!

    My G5 HSI just died completely. The display will not come on at all. Not with Battery bus power or with the unit power button. For some reason the shop connected the G5 HSI to the Battery bus instead of the Avionics bus. I will be calling them tomorrow to schedule an appointment.

    The G5 HSI can be switched from HSI mode to PFD mode. It is currently showing PFD mode which makes for a great back-up AI that works even when you loose electical power.
