    A tale of two tires

Sounds like you had some unusual bad luck, but look on the the bright side. Nobody was hurt and she keeps comimg back for more fun. Normally an Archer is a very reliable airplane. It is hard to inspect the tires with fairings mounted.

Making and Offer on An Aircraft

Go see the aircraft, review the log books to see if they are continuous. Check for any damage history, flight school or flying club activity. Aircraft that are owned by individuals typically have less hours and less abuse. Make a verbal offer based upon a flight test with the owner and...

    Increasing Checkride Fail Rate

I wonder if the reliance on a moving map or other technology is a factor. I know it makes navigation much easier, but I noticed that more recent pilots are dependant upon it. A friend failed his first recent checkride because he went off course. This friend also relies heavily on the autopilot...

Garmin GTX 335 or GTX 345

I have the 345 and like it because it also provides audio traffic alerts and I never get a false target on top of me from mt own transponder. I display on foreflight and a Garmin 796.

Does anyone wash the bottom of their aircraft

I wash my bottom once per year (100 hours of flying) and it actually stays pretty clean. Simple Green for Aircraft full strength in a spray bottle and the oil residue almost falls off.

Got my brains bashed in the Cub today

Sky Acres (44N) is a great airport with cheap gas and food! Has it become windier over the years or am I just getting old? (Okay, I know I'm getting old). Seems like it is hard to find a day to fly without a turbulence airmet. I did the majority of my piloting in the 80s and then recently...

Ocassionally G5 HSI does not power up

I only have the G5 HSI (no G5 AI) in my panel.

New STEC 30 suddenly doesn't track HDG or magenta line.

My G5 HSI now functions correctly after configuring the C21 AP to operate as an HSI (vs DG). I do still have a G5 issue that it occasionally does not power on without holding the power button for 10 seconds.

Adjusting Century 21 Autopilot to make heading align with HDG bug

This adjustment process does work, but you definietly need a smooth day to adjust accurately.

Ocassionally G5 HSI does not power up

Thanks. The shop installed version 5.20 so it does have the most up to date software. This actually happened with earlier revisions also.

Ocassionally G5 HSI does not power up

Ocassionally G5 HSI does not power up when I turn on the battery master. I then proceed to hold the G5 HSI power button for 10 seconds and the unit starts up to run correctly. Has anybody else run into this issue?

Adjusting Century 21 Autopilot to make heading align with HDG bug

Just found my answer. Remove front cover plate and adjust screws. Also describes bank angle adjustments Arkvet was looking for.

Adjusting Century 21 Autopilot to make heading align with HDG bug

I recently had a Garmin G5 HSI installed and connected to the C21 AP. It works great, but the aircraft magnetic heading is off by 3-5 degrees from where the HDG bug is set. I saw that WannFly had the same issue on the earlier Century model of AP and the technician flew with him and adjusted it...

    Dakota Upgrades - UPDATED

That does't seem to be 25lbs of change to me. More like like 5 lbs for the ADF and DME.

    Garmin G5 HSI troubleshoting challenge

The Heading bug mode now works correctly. The C21 AP now follows the heading bug. The problem was resolved by removing the ground jumper connector on C21 AP pin 17 (DG select) in diagram above so that the AP would operate in HSI mode. The garmin G5 install manual was incorrect because it said...

The Difference Between Them and Us.

Part of the challenge was that you had a woman with you. Frankly, other than my wife, I can easily run out out of things to talk about with many woman. Many have completely different interests (and come from a different planet). It does't help that I only had brothers, joined the military out...

    ADS-B Out and altitude reporting

Your encoder sends standard Pressure Altitude (29.92) out. That is what is on flightaware and ATC recieves. The controller's system corrects for current atmospheric pressure setting and the pilot does the same via the Kollsman window.
