    Servicing a primer

BTW I was about to have my primer ORings replaced due to some resistance on the the primer plunger and someone suggested spraying some silicone on shaft. Works perfect now. I swear that the 100F days we had caused the primer grease to change/move causing the resistance.

    Bose A20 question

It is the natural filtering a man goes through over the years of listening to his wife. ;) They think we can't hear, but really sometimes we don't want to hear the chatter. My A20s seem to to work fine with both genders. Upgrading my audio panel from a KMA-24 to a GMA-345 helped with clarity.

    Garmin 796 roll calibration

I ended up calling Garmin and they provided me the procedure which worked. Here is the procedure: Press and hold ENT button and press ON Press FUNCT button until you see SNSR on right side of display. SNSR will be seen vertically. Press button 9 until you see INTERNAL AHRS ORIENTATION If you...

    Suspected induction leak

Good news! Looks like tighting up the intake tube junctions solved the problem. I tested the airplane and found that the hesitation is now 90% gone with very slight hesitation now only at 1100 to 1200 RPM which I think is normal for a Lycosaur. The engine feels smoother too. The carb Idle...

    Suspected induction leak

Shop vacuum pressure was applied to the intake air filter. Number four cylinder had leak as indicated by bubbles. All riser clamps and nuts were retightened and vacuum pressure was retested with no leaks found. Next is ground and flight test.

    Garmin 796 roll calibration

I tried to do the steps listed in the pilot's guide and Reset Pitch/Roll menu option did not show up on the screen. My roll is still off by 3 degrees. :-( I rechecked that the GTX-345 was connected via the RS232 interface as the attitude source. All other info looks good.

Cyllinder base oil leak, repair or defer?

Oil Leaks- Some humor in this thread. Reminds me of the time when I was in the back seat of an SH-2G helicopter flying from MD to Kaman in CT after a week of flight testing with the Navy. The main gear box was leaking heavily and the oil was streaming down the side of the helicopter so I...

    Suspected induction leak

I tried to wiggle the carb the last time the cowling was off and did not notice looseness but maybe there is a gap in the gasket. The Mx said the carb was loose when I first bought the airplane 1.5 years ago and he tighened it up.

    Suspected induction leak

Thanks for the reply. Increasing the Idle mixture 1.5 turns out did not produce any RPM rise when setting the mixture to idle/cut-off. Mags are 250 hours since inspection and the run up drop is less than 100RPM. I also did an in-flight mag test and both L/R seemed to run fine. I think I need to...

    Suspected induction leak

My Piper Archer (O-360 Carb) has been having a hesitation problem at around 1200 to 1500 RPM when advancing the throttle so I suspect an induction leak. I also notice no slight RPM rise when changing the mixture to idle cut-off and the Idle Mixture adjustment does not produce an RPM rise. The...

    Garmin 796 roll calibration

I was thinking that it could be in the 345, but I just learned that you can do the following on the 796 "Resetting the 3D Vision Aircraft Attitude: From the Main Menu, touch 3D Vision > Menu > Reset Pitch/Roll (feature available when connected to an attitude source)"

    Garmin 796 roll calibration

When looking at the Garmin 796 Synthetic vision screen I see that roll is consistently off by 3-5 degrees. Is there a way to adjust/calibrate/null the roll on the 796? My 796 has a 232 interface to a Garmin GTX-345 and also to the GTN-650. The 796 display is canted at an angle to point towards...

Roll output from Garmin G5 to Century autopilot

Any updates on Garmin adding a Roll output to the G5 AI? I need this for my Century 21 autpilot and my existing vacuum driven AI is starting to fail so I would much rather replace with a G5 AI.

    Fabric hangar repair

I have a 40X50 foot hangar that has a polyethylene fabric cover and back wall. The back wall has zippers that were blown out that I would like to repair to stop the wind from coming through. Does anybody have any suggestions or have experience with this type of repair? I have been using white...

Grumman Tiger, good bad and ugly

The Tiger and Archer are great planes with the Tiger being about 10 knots faster and it has better visibility over the low Glare sheild. I have flown both and currently own an Archer. I chose the cherokee line because many more were built and the parts are available with Piper still producing...

Next step to trouble shoot airspeed discrepancy ? (SOLVED)

This may not be applicable on a Comanche, but my Archer has a airpeed diaphram in parallel with the aircraft ASI that is used to disable the electric trim when it detects overspeed (145KAS). My airpeed diaphram had a hole in it so my aircraft ASI would read low by 20 knots. Replacing the...

    Locking up just before touchdown

Sometimes breaking the landing down to logical steps/phases of landing helps. 1) establish stabilized approach with trimmed airplane, 2) when short final slow to 1.3 Vso, 3) when runway is made pull power, 4) level off roughly 6 inches above runway, 5) flare to slow and touchdown. Maintain...
