When to know when to quit...or at least take a long hiatus

I took a break for about 6 years after getting married and getting my career started. Went back via an aero club for 12 years before purchasing my own plane. Have been an owner since 1999. Did some family flying for about 8 years, but not much since 2008. Own my plane outright, so no need to...

I want to go to OSH 2024... BUT

Why was it the worst experience? I was thinking of doing that in 2024. I understand they have a shuttle to Air Venture.

Haze layer, smooth on top - what's it called?

The inversion is below the top of the haze layer. The inversion is from the ground up where the temperature rises versus decreasing at the adiabatic lapse rate. The inversion ends where the temp curve begins to decrease versus rising.

Highest cruise altitude in an AA5?

When one asked the question the OP did, one has to be very careful of the aircraft configuration. HC STC, Sensinich prop, Powerflow exhaust, one, two, or some combination thereof?

Flying the Gulf Coast - 12nm limits and coastal T-storms

Looking at the weather here…. I am not sure I’d do the flight this week.

No, but I do wash my airplane!

    Something going on around DC

“the heading did change from 240º to 236º would take into account the difference between 12W near ISP and 8W variation near departure.” Boy, somebody didn’t have much to do yesterday! :) East is least, West is best!

    Brought the Colt home!

Congrats. Stay within yours and the planes capabilities, and enjoy the hell out of her! Nothing like having a plane you can fly whenever you want.

RV10 or C182 or Other for my needs...?

Agree with this. Make sure the wife really does like flying before getting into the deep end of airplane ownership. You may find out it is just you 85% of the time. If it is still a go, I see 2 airplanes in your future… a PA 32 or Bonanza A36 and then something to bebop around on the weekends...

    The Comanche is Home

Haha! I was looking at that Comanche a while back, on either Barnstormers or Trade a Plane. Don’t recall where you are located, but did you need to import from Canada?

Let's refine the straight-in debate with an example & poll

If I’m on base and the 340 has called a 3 mile final, I’d let them know I’m on a base and see what they decide to do. If I I think in your situation, since you heard the straight in call PRIOR to turning base, I would of gone slow flight and continued downwind, and let him know I was extending...

Best Insurance Carrier (Underwriter) for Senior Pilots?

I don’t think there is anything specific. It is up to each underwriter, and you usually don’t find out the restrictions until you look to renew or get a quote.

    Surefly mag issue

Sounds like another good idea/product going down the tubes because of poor company support. No reason an email request can’t get a response in a day or two. Even we are very busy will get back to you in xxx days. And COVID is no longer a valid excuse!

    I’m calling the peak

Pretty close, used home in 1985. Bought a new construction home in 1987, at 10% Didn’t really feel like I was getting ahead until around 1990/1991. Refinanced at 8%. And then again in early 2000 to 6.25%. Paid off in 2012. Paid cash for current home, so doesn’t matter to me what the mortgage...
