    What is this part of?

Looks to me like a structural blind rivet (type of pop rivet). Place it on it's end with the fractured end up and use a small 1/16" round flat end punch in the center and see if you can drive the center of the shaft downward. If a center shaft separates from the outside shank you will know for...

    Coronavirus Memes

Those of you who are not pilots, physicists or mechanical engineers may not understand these formulas. But in this Pandemic time, it is important we try to cause our brain to function by introducing subjects that require extension of our storehouse of knowledge! Today's Engineering Lesson...

    Check your O2 (Covid-19 related)

I am too. Also wonder if it has an alarm if something like O2 is haywire?

    Check your O2 (Covid-19 related)

After reading this I googled health watches and came up with this: https://blogs.dailylifetech.com/EWl3/vita-watch/m1/amazing-heart-monitoring-smartwatch-1112 Looks like it monitors all the necessary vitals and might be worthwhile for checking O2 while flying in winter. Any PIREPS on this...

    Cessna 120/140 yay or nay?

I would not add the extenders either. Also have flown the models before and after the gear change, and all of them with the Goodyear brakes.

    Cessna 120/140 yay or nay?

The gear legs were moved forward on the 1948's also. The reason for the RPM limitation with the 72" prop the tips get into the transition range (near supersonic) at the higher RPM's an O-200 is rated for. Cessna 150's had a 69" prop to allow for more RPM and more ground clearance. My 48 model...

    Cessna 120/140 yay or nay?

They do not have flaps or rear windows. Which year model are you looking at? All double strut models originally had fabric wings. Most rag wings will slightly out perform the early 140's that had the metallized wing mod. With the newer fabric options rag wings are not a the disadvantage for...

    Garmin GFC 500

Not in this particular airplane but I have flown many 210’s and several twins with CESSNA autopilots when I worked at the factory in the 70’s. The electric trim seemed much faster at the time and I did not have the urge that I do now to reach down and manually trim.

    Garmin GFC 500

We installed a GFC500 and a pair of G5’s last fall in our 210. It does a very nice job enroute and shooting RNAV approaches. My only negative feedback is that when manually flying it and wanting to trim the controls the electric trim seems very slow to respond. The electric trim seems to work...

    Coronavirus Memes

Half of us are going to come out of this quarantine as amazing cooks. The other half will come out with a drinking problem. I used to spin that toilet paper like I was on Wheel of Fortune. Now I turn it like I'm cracking a safe I need to practice social-distancing from the refrigerator. Still...

J3 on floats: how does it fly with floats

It just takes a bit longer & more room to get the floats up out of the displacement mode in the water and on step on top of the water. You will learn the J maneuver with the stick to get the first one planing and then the second one comes up easier.

    COVID-19 Aftermath: What will change?

Here is the table I tried to post Friday. This shows the timing and rate of the stock market rebound after the last health scares. I don’t remember the degree the markets previously dropped but my perception is this one is much worse.

Wake turbulence - are you ready for it?

I earned my first license at Stillwater OK in 1970. Stillwater was formerly a world war II training base with three mile long runways at 120 degrees from each other crossing in the center. The university had a nice Beech 18 that had been converted to tricycle gear with two 450 horsepower...

Avidynne IFD training, new tricks for an old dog.

There may be an easier way to do this without establishing a waypoint but I don’t know how? Usually there is more than one way to do almost anything with the IFD 540’s.

    5) Now to establish the hold at this waypoint again use the FMS screen and scroll left to FPL 6) Identify where you want to insert the hold in the sequence, see the inserted blue line 7) touch on this blue line - or- press the ENTR key 8) This brings up the criteria for a selection and press...

Avidynne IFD training, new tricks for an old dog.

Here is one way to establish a waypoint 15 miles East of an intersection: 1) press on the FMS button and scroll over to WPT 2) press the #2 LSK new key This brings up a blank waypoint screen 3) again press the #2 LSK to convert the format from lat & long to fix, radial & distance 4) highlight...

Avidynne IFD training, new tricks for an old dog.

I have done that but it was 3 years ago. I will play with the IFD trainer tonight and try to remember what I did. Presume you want to store a location as you fly over it as opposed to entering the lat and long position with the keyboard?

Single cylinder high EGT, very high CHT, rough engine - Clogged injector?

Nope, I am not suggesting that it is originating in the spider. The intent is that when you have contamination in an injector some material passed through the fuel screen and then into the spider on the way to the injector. If you find contamination remaining in the fuel screen it is probably...
