    So today, there I was.....

My wife & I were in Grand Teton last week. I highly recommend the Jackson Hole Playhouse production of Oklahoma running this season. Dinner is nice with the wait staff (also show cast members) singing and the show was very nicely done.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

10 days later, the practical test is scheduled for oral at the airport at 11. So I meet the CFI at the dock at 8 for a refresher flight. The left engine has been giving some trouble starting, so we start the right first. I've been drilling myself on the sequences. I've got them nailed! Woohoo...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Day 3. Again the strong north wind. So we take off and head north to another lake, Lake Pend Oreille. Climb to 3500, watch for traffic from Coeur D'Alene airport, pop over this ridge, head for that one and then we're there. Head up to the middle of the lake and using a boat for reference attempt...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

Let me continue with day 2 of training. Take off from Brooks and headed to the middle of the lake. We did a straight in and landing. It was rough. We went ahead and took off and headed down to the south end of the lake where we would hopefully find smoother water. I'm consistently forgetting...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I passed my practical test today so I am now a CP-AMES in addition to ASES, ASEL and AMEL. Details to follow.

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

For the rest of day one... We turned north and went to the middle of the lake to do takeoffs and landings. The landing pattern is at 500' AGL so you can see 1) wind speed and direction, 2) debris in the area, 3) boat traffic (and other obstructions). Downwind is 18 inches and 1800 RPM. Once in...

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I spent 3 days in Coeur D'Alene doing the training for my A-MES add on. Brooke's Seaplane Service is highly recommended. I wanted a classic flying boat (Grumman Goose or the like) but all my research showed there is only one and they do a few ratings a year in conjunction with museum work. So...

    Lets make Friday 'Joke Day'!

Dang. Last November we took our daughters, one fiancee and our two granddaughters on the train ride out of Waynesville NC. When we were walking back to the parking lot I didnt notice a step down in the rain and stumbled and eventually fell. I laughed but apparently I'm old... :(

Home electrics - dangerous or just shoddy?

If the light is heavy (seems unlikely in a closet), or if you run into this elsewhere, you can use one of these (installed from the room via the hole cut for the box). It will hold a ceiling fan, no problem...

    Talk to me about glasses

I've worn glasses since I was 3. I have a few odd things about my vision: I do not have true binocular vision though I have two functioning eyes. My right eye is dominant and is near sighted. My left eye is slightly far sighted. After my PPL (which I did using single focus glasses and looking...

Who are rated seaplane pilots on POA? 'fess up.

Just curious as to how many have float ratings and/or experience? I am rated SES, but have only the training/checkride + 1.2 hours experience. I'm headed to get my MES shortly but realistically expect to never fly a multi engine seaplane again. John

So, student pilots.. Who are we and where do we stand?

I went and got SES current today in anticipation of my MES rating in a few weeks. Lovely (though hot!) day for floats today in central Florida. Just enough breeze to ripple the surface so glassy water techniques not required, but not enough to even weather vane the plane much. Did slow taxi and...
