    Hiyo

As the thread title says, Hiyo guys and gals, I'm back. With the pandemic I have not flown in over a year, and I've been very busy with school/work. But I am hopefully graduating this year and with luck we will get the pandemic under control and I'll be able to get airborne again!

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

I'm interested in getting confirmation on a rumor that came through a friend who is involved in ALPA. And it sounds like they do have a stance on this, and the issue is sort of in a grey area. The FAA should put out some sort of guidance on this. Again - that is their job. That is one of the...

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

So that's kind of a false equivalency with the IRS. If you deliberately evade taxes, you know you are breaking the law, views on taxation notwithstanding. But it is also prudent if you are starting a business to meet with an accountant and go over the tax implications, and that is really the...

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

Why would I not? I am familiar with the regs. I also know that omitting a relevant fact from a medical application is a criminal offense. I want to have all my t's crossed and i's dotted when I renew. Here's the other thing. If they are taking this stance, they need to publish something...

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

One of the people on the thread who is an airline pilot, said that in the past people who have participated in medication trials were suspended until after the dosing period was over. But yeah very much a four letter word move by the FAA if this is the case.

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

So to clarify I'm not a participant in one of the trials as of now, but I have signed up to be in the pool to be drawn from. I work in research and I think it is important to have people willing to participate in studies like this, and to participate in these studies myself.

    COVID vaccine trials and medicals

Any FAA folks in here? I've been on a discussion thread on Facebook, that was started by a rumor that the FAA will revoke medicals for anybody that participates in a COVID vaccine trial. Nobody could find a published stance on it, so I decided to contact the local FSDO. They got in touch with...

    Cloning a plane

Yeah the 51% checklist is kind of wild because, as you say, fabricating things like the panel, fuel lines, and brake lines all carry the same importance as major structural components. So I would much rather buy things like the ribs and the spars and then make things like the electrical system...

    Cloning a plane

For what it's worth, here's the agreement, https://airandspace.si.edu/sites/default/files/Indemnification_Agreement_20190624.pdf It just says that the drawings may not allow you to build an airworthy airplane and that you won't use the knowledge for commercial purposes.

I'd just want to use them to build a fully functional, full-scale model.

    Cloning a plane

I've been watching the new Silvaire LSA, or LSA8 or whatever it's called now. Last I saw these things were going to be 90K?

    Cloning a plane

That's what makes the Luscombe attractive to me, other than the fact that I think they're beautiful. I've considered doing the basket case thing, but the problem is that you then end up with something that is a nightmare to get airworthy if you're not an AP. I had considered getting a...

    Cloning a plane

That's awesome! Thanks! So the truth is that I kind of have a thing for the Swift. Every time I see one (or a Luscombe, to be honest), I just sit and stare at it. And they aren't terribly expensive, per se, but I'd just be concerned about logbooks and AD's and corrosion on an unsupported...

    Cloning a plane

Okay hear me out.... there are plans built planes, and among them are monocoque designs like the RV4. Has anybody ever plans built a clone of a classic monocoque plane like a Swift or a Luscombe? Looking at the bulkhead / stringer / riveted skin construction, it would seem to me that something...

    How long to get IFR?

I did mine in about a year, flying twice a week. But I did Part 61 right after finishing my private so I spent a couple of months just flying around to different airports to get my xc time built up.

    New Ford Bronco

I dig it. I wouldn’t spend 30,000 for a base model, but I think that the prices of most new cars are insane. I love the interior and I think Ford really captured the spirit of the original with it.

    <NA> Motorcycle photo thread

On the gear... SPEND THE MONEY. When I first started riding I wore a helmet just so I could say “yeah yeah I’m being safe I’m wearing a helmet.” I wore whatever as long as it was DOT and not expensive. When I got into grad school the dealer where I got my bike had a sale on Arai helmets. On a...

    <NA> Motorcycle photo thread

There is a social aspect to it, as others have pointed out. You know how if you meet someone who is a pilot, you may not be the best of friends with them, but you have that connection? Same thing on a bike. Also, bikes are fun. 65 mph on a car and 65 mph on a bike aren't the same thing at...
