    Flight school websites

Absolutely. But if there MUST be a click for a menu, have it say "MENU HERE" or something. I couldn't figure out where everyone was finding all the pictures and stuff, so I clicked on the three little lines and hoped for the best. I simply HATE clicking on links where I don't know what to...

    An Unconscienable Act.....

You mean we'll finally get concealed carry laws that allow honest, decent people to carry handguns wherever they want? I can't wait! Tim

    Prop Protection

Sometimes mechanics, skydivers, or passengers walk into the prop and mess it up. This keeps damage to a minimum. Tim

    Lake Aircraft

There's been a derelict Lake at Watsonville for going on 20 years. It gets towed to various places and then parked for a while. (Come to think of it, I haven't seen it for a bit, so I don't know where it is right now.) Anyway, if you like the things, you could probably buy this one for five...

    It's a plane... It's a bird?!?!

I was surprised to see a swallow today at 3000 feet. Not especially high, but have never seen anything but soaring birds while flying. There was a monster thermal nearby with a hawk in it. Tim

    I've Been Bitten

I stay out of helicopters. I can't afford to like the things. Tim

    Hangar rash avoidance...

Make a "range". Find or place two objects high in the front and back of your hangar that make a centerline. You need to be able to see them when pushing your plane back. Find another two objects on the front and rear of your airplane that make a centerline. Likewise, you need to be able to see...

sUAS Help Keep Birds From Airports?

I think it's easier just to be very, very polite and let someone else take off ahead of you. Tim

    Pilot physical vs regular physical

Memorize those words. Talk to local pilots and see who they recommend as an AME. A "good" AME (from a pilot's point of view) will only check the required medical items. Tim

Missed a chance at a joke on frequency

Once when trying to land at an uncontrolled airport I had to fit my calls into a conversation taking place between two guys about a hundred miles away, who were talking about which airport restaurant had the hottest waitresses. They got all ****y when I mentioned they should take it offline. Tim

    What is "power"?

Yes. It's not so noticeable in a car because a car engine only has to deliver a small fraction of its rated power to do the day-to-day things the driver demands of it. Edit: Sheesh--John beat me by a minute. Gotta be quick around here. Tim

    How Man Desired to Fly

I don't understand the request. Virtually everything that exists would also exist if there were no natural flyers. Tim

    C-130 on a beach

If the beach is very flat like that one and the sand stays a bit moist, it will be a hard enough surface for landings. Tim

    How Man Desired to Fly

Sure. Eventually someone would have noticed that some thrown objects stay in the air longer than others and tried to figure out why. Tim

    C-130 on a beach

Here's another landing and takeoff at the same location, this time seen from outside the plane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07Ds9NYB_bE Tim

Check your NOTAMS boys and girls...

Apparently some poor SOB at Watsonville did the same thing: http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/general-news/20150213/military-jet-scrambled-near-aptos-when-plane-flies-in-presidential-no-fly-zone Tim

    Washing and waxing planes

Oh, I suppose you could move the prop if you wanted to. God knows people do it every day without drama. Just be aware that you are betting your life that the P-lead is working and/or that the ignition is turned off. If you must move the prop, be sure all body parts are well away from it in...

    Washing and waxing planes

Watch for pointy antennas that can poke you in the eye or get broken. Don't move props. Your friend is right--you will definitely need a creeper. Tim

First Solo and a great kid!

Why worry about it? Heck, we're probably going to be "dialing" phone numbers and "typing" on keyboards for years to come. Anyway, the only things I remember about soloing are being absolutely committed to landing the airplane, and being really surprised at how much better the thing climbed...

Nitrogen setup for struts - what do I need? Can a setup be bought inexpensively?

Out of curiosity, why do you want to buy your own strut-filling gear? In my experience, adding gas to the struts is such a rare event that I could never justify buying my own setup. Tim
