Yet another I hate modern cars rant

There have been reports of cars self locking the doors with the key fob inside. Do you really want to risk that?

THAT guy with the flight jacket with patches

I sometimes wear my 30+ year old AF issued leather flight jacket while riding the motorcycle. It still has the name tag, rank, and wings on the left breast and a modified ACC Patch with the B-1 instead of the sword on the right breast. At times it is a conversation starter. I stopped to get...

ATC and Tower Too busy to conduct training due to staffing issues

KVGT and KHND had similar "staffing issues". (Las Vegas NV valley). VGT is an FAA Training Tower. They curtailed T&G operations following a couple of accidents and also cited staffing issues. I no longer live in the Las Vegas area so I do not know the current situation. I know at least one...

How Many Planes Do You Have

Can we consider how many we have access to? Not counting rentals. 3 taildraggers, 9 gliders, of which I own 1.

Our Airports are becoming POW camps

Two fold, protecting the aircraft and components from theft or damage. Protecting the citizens from your aircraft being used as a weapon. The instances of small aircraft being used as weapons before and after 9/11 is too small to measure. The noise complainers that moved in next to an existing...

Can Private Pilots Have a "Job"?

I'll agree there are not a lot of opportunities, but I see advertisements every winter for tow pilots to support the next summer season. Most clubs are volunteer pilots, flying for the fun or to build hours. Commercial glider ride companies or training schools will pay for tow pilots.

    Question about adverse yaw

Exactly... fly a Grob 103, that 17.2meter wing span is about 1/3rd aileron. You can always tell new pilots to the Grob 103 by the "yaw dance" that gets set up with the nose hunting back and forth with every minor wiggle of the aileron. I demonstrate adverse yaw in most gliders it works the...

Success rate of off-airport deadstick landings

Every landing in a glider is "dead stick", and there are a lot of very successful off airport landings. It is part of the training.

PRNC works great. I had a few of those this go-round.

Oil temp how low is too low

Be careful using tape. Air pressure against the oil cooler can push the tape into the fine holes in the radiator style cooler and block airflow in the summer when you really need the cooling. It's a b**ch to clean. Most manufactures have a metal plate for a "winterization kit". Normally...

    Complex/High Performance aircraft questions

The C182 Manual calls for full power on takeoff, then reduce to 23MP for continuous climb and 2300RPM. Most reduce the power at about 500ft AGL. Yes, keep increasing throttle to maintain the 23MP until you hit full throttle again. A lot of aircraft have max power limits. The L-19 with the O-470...

cessna 140, something in center of cabin ceiling?

My first thought was a 360degree camera pointing down, but I have not seen her videos use a 360 camera. So, it might be a light she can point to where she needs it.

Cessna 150 or 152, which would you rather have?

I like the 150 for the extra 10degrees of flap travel. Butterfly switch for flap selection is not a problem. I like the 152 for the Lycoming engine and better chance to upgrade to 125HP or more. I'm biased, I learned in a C150 Commuter II when they were brand new, butterfly flap switch, flap...

Advice on preparing for 2nd/1st class w/vertigo spell seven years ago

Contact Dr Bruce, he's listed in other messages on this forum. Are you still having issues without taking meds? Getting a consult is a good idea. I've never had vertigo, military flyer, but I had one AME years ago put me through a lot of different bending positions and motions. I think I was...

Clearing up Confusion Between Pilots and ATC

I used to fly a T-41B, N98189, controllers were always screwing up that number. Sometimes I would answer them, sometimes I would not, other times I would ask, "Was that for 98189?" I hate when the Arrow III I am flying gets called a Warrior. But the end of the tail number is "ND", and the local...
