PPR and Landing Fee Nonsense Again in Vegas for Superbowl

If it's on the ground overnight in Las Vegas, CCDoA, Clark County Dept of Aviation, is going to reap some benefit from it. During special events they will collect fees, even if it is gas and go or drop-off and go.

PPR and Landing Fee Nonsense Again in Vegas for Superbowl

For F1, CCDoA contracted with an outside source to provide "ramp control" at HND and VGT. That was their "excuse" for the high charge, plus they needed to make their profit above the contract cost. I can see the same thing happening again.

PPR and Landing Fee Nonsense Again in Vegas for Superbowl

Welcome to Clark County Dept of Aviation. They are the FBO at VGT, HND, 0L7 (Jean) and I believe U08 (Perkins Field). They allow Signature and others to operate at LAS for a princely fee.

“California Aircraft of Historical Significance” tax exemption question

Just don't log that the flight would be to get your kid to college... that would be "transportation of a passenger". But if you fly with another person for that mystery $100 hamburger and return, that is recreational.

Beechcraft Baron 55 down in Leyden MA, triple fatal

Fast moving cold front coming through mid-day with snow showers, white out conditions at times, and winds gusting in excess of 40-50knts. Around noon it was crossing the Connecticut River valley. That part of Massachusetts is rolling hills and low peaks, with that wind, turbulence could be extreme.

After first solo in student owned plane

I once had a young student that I had solo'd. He came to the glider club one day told me he could not fly but would work the ground support, his arm in a cast. I asked what happened. He said he had dumped his dirt bike, motorcycle, in the desert. I knew where he lived, a few residential streets...

    Nicks in propeller?

I expect the mechanic would pull the prop and send it to a proper shop for evaluation and overhaul. The PropShop can determine if it is serviceable and complete the proper work to return the prop to service. Or they may not approve the prop and remove it from service.

After first solo in student owned plane

This is standard advice for most instructors and sometimes might be specified for insurance coverage. Instructor at the field, day of flight to review the weather and other considerations to include student preparedness for student solo flight. How many times have students shown up for lessons...

    Lawsuit for Balloon Overflights

Well, with the FAA controlling UAS operations and limiting most Part107 drone operators to below 400ft AGL. I would say the FAA rules the airspace from your roofline up. I don't think the FAA has established minimum flight over land, just over people.

    Finding Downwind Struggle/Sweat

More details needed. "Standard" is left traffic or Left Downwind. IF ATC wants something else they need to tell you.

Low cost cellular wi-fi for hangar??

Is your internet company participating and installing WAN (Wide Area Networks) in the city? My iPad is non-cellular, but I can sign into my "comcast" account over their WAN while at the airport.

    Alaska Airlines explosive decompression 1/5/23

Last I heard, FAA Grounded all of them. Probably for at least a one time inspection. That will require removing the interior panels to inspect the latches on those aircraft where this is not an active emergency door.

What type of equipment do I tell atc that I have?

Had what must have been a rookie center controller ask one time. How are you Navigating Direct? The answer was "Celestial in GRID", he stopped asking. Another time the "how direct" question was asked. The answer was, there are two highly qualified navigators downstairs with radar, Radar...

How often do you fly with a CFI or instructor..

New aircraft checkout when I move, or every two years for FR. Normally I am the one giving FRs for everyone else. A rental club I fly with just changed their rules to checkout flight every year.

Man arrested after stealing plane from North Las Vegas airport

Roger on the sarcasm... They have fence, gates, passcode or swipe card for access. Sticker for your vehicle, but no "airport ID". Any student gets the gate code from their school. The swipe card is a generic card, not specific to a vehicle. Guards! HaHaHa... Like a lot of Post 9/11 airports...

Man arrested after stealing plane from North Las Vegas airport

There were a number of aircraft tampered with at the North Las Vegas airport (KVGT) over the last week. They are pinning all of those break-ins, damage and tampering to him. Details were posted from the FAA database on the thief. Student certificate and Class 1 medical from June 2018.

    TCAS-RA

There is a 40B100 Class B Shelf west of the Henderson NV (HND) airport. A lot of pilots use that space between 4000 and the ground (~2500) to get around the west side of the Class B to get to the airport to the NW, KVGT. When LAS is landing Rwy 1, the ILS is in that area. GA pilots below the...
