    Question about adverse yaw

Fly a long winged glider to truly experience adverse yaw. The statements of the down vs. up ailerons is correct. The upward moving wing, right wing in a left turn, has a downward deflecting aileron that "creates more lift" and "increases drag". The upward moving aileron does decrease lift and...

    Coordination between facilities

That has changed a ton since I was doing ATC. We had "hot lines" on the overhead panel above the radar. Touch a button and call it out. "Pease, Manchester, Handoff, 20NE Concord, 46J, 6000", The other controller would respond "accepted" or what ever he needed, then you could release the line...

    Bad Elf Wombat

I have a Bad Elf Pro, it looks like that is also discontinued. I have not used it in years. I had it for my non-gps iPad when flying. But I updated my STRATUX to include the GPS to the iPad and most rental aircraft now with ADS-B Out provide the GPS and ADSB In data on the transponder Wi-Fi...

Yesterday I received two packages. One shipped on 17 October and it did not arrive until 4 December. Following the USPS Tracking program it looks like it sat somewhere for over 6 weeks before moving forward. 6 weeks from Illinois to Massachusetts. The second package shipped last week from...

    ELT Battery

A question came up at the flying club. ELT Battery is due for replacement Spring '24, going into Annual in late December. Is this something we can accomplish under Part 43 Appendix A, (c) (24)? The item is generic "Replacing and servicing batteries". Does not specify aircraft main battery or...

Engine Oil Capacity (172) - Which Number to Use?

Filling to capacity is not a great idea. For the original post. 7 qts are needed to fill if you change the oil and filter. Someone already answered that. Put in 6, run the engine for leak check and to fill the filter. Let it set for the disturbed oil to settle. Then check the level and add oil...

    Comanche Time CFI

It would be interesting to know your experience level going into the Comanche that the insurers want 25hrs of dual before they will cover you. Particularly total time, complex time and high performance time. If you are instrument rated, does some of your 25hrs have to include an IPC in the...

FedEx leaving packages on the road now?

You think it's bad now, wait until they start using drones for delivery and you find it on the roof! I saw a UPS truck in the driveway. They always leave stuff by the garage door in the rain, not on a covered front porch. I stepped out to get the package and it was not my name. It was for across...

NA why do people bag leaves and throw them away?

Because we can't burn them anymore. I remember growing up with leaves burning in the curb. I just rake mine, use them for mulch around the roses to be removed in the spring. The rest get moved into the woods behind my house for natural decomp.

    Battery or Both

What does the checklist say? I've seen checklists call for both, and I've seen checklists call for battery only and then alternator. Most "modern" aircraft call for both.

Emergency exit question - especially for Cherokee pilots

Over 50yrs ago there was a Beech Musketeer departing KAUG, Augusta Maine. On departure the engine failed. Now Augusta sits on a flattened hill top. The pilot was able to get turned around but did not have the altitude to land on the runway. He landed along the slope of the hillside, but a main...

    Stratux ADSB question

I don't do that for shut down. I just pull the USB cord out of the Pi connection. Not really interested in dialing up Safari and the IP address to shut down. But I will look into it and perhaps save the IP address to favorites.

Fighter Pilot looking for advice on the GA world

All good advice above. As an added bonus, you may consider getting some dual in a variety of single engine land aircraft before you make a decision. Also the idea of dual is to remember what your feet are for. Your insurance company will appreciate that. Depending on what you purchase, you may...
