Why are super vikings so cheap?

I think they're one of the best value in high performance airplanes out there. I had, with some partners, a '72 for several years. Awesome airplane. Solid 160ktas on ~14gph LOP. Had a good useful load, too. But, they do have a few quirks that depress the values. Certain aspects of them...

“Request for Airman Medical Record”, how to do it without fax/mail

The medical industry is single-handedly keeping fax machines alive... Some lawyers still like them, but I just refuse to give out a fax number anymore.

Baron owners...inputs on what to buy

And the tails fall off. Don't forget the tails falling off.

Baron owners...inputs on what to buy

If you really like the TBone, you should go fly one. May not be a 180kt airplane, but you're flying around in a living room that will carry anything you can put into it.

Baron owners...inputs on what to buy

On the 58P, I've never owned one, but I know a couple folks who have. None of them have anything good to say about the ownership experience ($$$$$$$$), though they said it was pleasant to fly. I can say that back when I worked the desk at an FBO, we had a base customer with a 58P. Literally...

    Pilots into Audiophile Systems/Home Theater

Doesn't look like the 4700h is on the upgrade list. 3800 and 4800, but not the 4700.

    Pilots into Audiophile Systems/Home Theater

Did a major theater upgrade this past weekend. Still need to do some tweaking/polishing, but it's all working and I'm thrilled. It's a basement theater, but not a totally dedicated space so I didn't go too budget-busting given some of the compromises that inevitably come with a non-dedicated...

    Pilots into Audiophile Systems/Home Theater

I've had the RSW12 for a few years, been a solid performer. I'll get an SVS if I ever replace it. I've got a set of RF82s and an RC64 myself, but they don't work in my current space, unfortunately.

    Pilots into Audiophile Systems/Home Theater

I'm working on updating my home theater now. It's not a truly dedicated space, but it's a basement theater. Have been running a 110" screen for several years, and upgraded to a 110" acoustically-transparent screen so I can install a set of new Klipsch in-wall speakers behind it, and a series...

    Patent law - career question

As I understand it, it's a fairly niche practice area. My firm has ~900 lawyers and a decent sized intellectual property group. Looks like we employ 6 patent agents in total. And I'll note that, very generally, in law firms non-attorney positions are usually somewhat less secure than attorney...

Six Seats, Two Engines, Under 20 GPH

Mine does 155-160kts on 26gph. Same cabin, smaller engines.

Six Seats, Two Engines, Under 20 GPH

That's a ~40 gal per hour airplane in cruise. I know a fellow Twin Bonanza owner that has an Excalibur version similar to this (with IO720s), he reports ~36-40GPH at ~180ktas.

Six Seats, Two Engines, Under 20 GPH

A later model Twin Comanche can have up to 6 seats, though the rear seats are very much "small kids only." But it's legal with 6 seats and most have useful loads in the 11-1200 pound range. 160-165kts on 15-16gph. Pretty hard to beat from an efficiency standpoint. Engines are pretty reliable...

    Purchase Process

There's no "one size fits all" answer. If you're mechanically inclined, know what to look for, know the make/model well enough, you can get away with a "DIY" prebuy and a bill of sale/immediate payment. If you're inexperienced, an independent pre-buy and a purchase agreement/escrow may make sense.

    Bidding for hangar lease???

Most of this can be avoided with active airport management that actually enforces a requirement that hangars contain airworthy aircraft or active projects. Too many hangars full of dust-covered airplanes and TONS of non-aviation storage. Several at my airport that couldn't even be worked on or...

Aircraft ownership rush to Exit door

I think it's the tail end of people trying to sell while the market is still perceived as "hot." Cash out, basically.

    Current loan rates

Prepayment depends entirely on the lender. While most will allow it without premium, some may impose prepayment penalties (if you payoff before scheduled maturity, you owe them a lump sum payment to make up for the lost interest). Also, there's a lot to be said for convenience, flexilibilty...

    Current loan rates

Totally unsecured. They don't even ever ask what you want to buy or what you bought. Requires excellent credit, of course. I've used them a few times, very happy with the process before and after.
