    Tug question....again!

It's a little overkill for a 172, but I'd look for a lightly used SuperTow II. With the lazy-Susan cradle on the front, it's unbelievably easy to move an airplane around. Can be found on the used market in the $2500 range.

    Egregious FBO charges

Plenty of controlled airports have minimal perimeter security. I can think of at least 2 local Class D airports where I can very easily walk or drive onto the ramp without the need for a badge, code or opening a gate. Those with airline service are a different matter, but not every controlled...

    Egregious FBO charges

This is an utterly toxic view and is part of what's killing general aviation. The fact that the guy can afford to own and fly a fancy airplane does not make $385 a reasonable fee. This idea that outrageous fees and pricing is ok because the "rich airplane owners" can afford it is just f'd up.

    Egregious FBO charges

Lol. What world have you been living in? Many FBOs go out of their way to ensure the fees aren't actually transparent. While it seems Signature and Atlantic finally caved and make them available on their websites, many others still essentially hide them. And even calling or emailing isn't...

Good place to hide a spare key on plane?

Tape it inside an easily-accessible inspection panel. Use good tape so it doesn't let go due to heat/temp changes.

Check the LRU page in the settings. I bet the GAD29B is offline.

Letter to FAA Regarding Alcohol Use

Bear in mind, when you write a letter like this, it's not a novel or a letter to your friend or your mom, or a short story for a local magainze. It's a very technical letter that amounts to legal testimony and should be written very carefully and narrowly. Don't offer any more information than...

Umbrella policies, waivers of liability to passenger question

A non-revocable trust can help, but a good lawyer can frequently attack the creation of the trust and transfer of the assets into the trust as a fraudulent transfer, depending on the circumstances. In other words, those can be unwound in some situations.

    Baron or Duke?

Tail will fall off. But I look cool.

    Baron or Duke?

My Duke has 232 gallons of fuel (most are 232, some are 202 ("Standard" fuel). Basically, 4:15 of endurance with a 1hr reserve. Or 5:!5 to empty. With a little tailwind, I can do 900 or so miles comfortably. I've done KC to Orlando and Bozeman to KC without much stress.

Prop governor overhaul took care of the issue. Shop reported it had significant internal leakage.

shave cream - who is using what

Braun Series 7 electric. Has a cleaning station built into the charger. Works great, had it for years. Just replace the cutting head every year or so at $40. Who has the time to shave manually?

Previously Deferred for SSRI/ Chevron SCOUTS Decision

On (2), it will likely have zero meaningful impact. All it means is that, if you sue the agency in federal court, the Court does not have to (but still can) give any deference to the agency's interpretation of its own regulations. Basically, in theory, it makes it easier for a federal judge to...

    Baron or Duke?

Probably a little hyperbole in there. The Duke burns about 40gph (well, 60 first hour, 40 after that). I flight plan at 200 KTAS. On a 3hr flight, I'll burn 140 gallons and go say 600 miles. So that 4.28nm/gal. The 501 burns 150gph at lets call it 330 KTAS. Let's ignore first hour fuel...

    Baron or Duke?

I gave up two GO435s for two TIO541s. Sold a B50 Twin Bonanza and got a A60 Duke. The TBone has more ramp presence, but the Duke is 100% sexier. For the OP, as noted in the BT thread, and like with Twin Bonanzas, many of the people who bash both have never even flown one, let alone owned one.

Used one from eBay or one of the various aircraft salvage operations will be your best short-term option.

Pre Buy Inspection - Who generally pays for moving the plane?

These discussions very much evidence how the "advice" everyone gives on pre-buys (independent mechanic, do this task, do that task, pull a cylinder, etc.) falls apart when put into practice. A lot of owners won't put up with a lot of that (there's a zero percent chance you're pulling a cylinder...

What do you want in an engine monitor?

Primary replacement, IMHO, should be the main consideration. It's basically the same amount of work to install an "advisory" monitor vs. a full primary replacement one (other than the work to remove the other gauges). Plus, with a primary replacement, you can get the live fuel and oil lines...

Pre Buy Inspection - Who generally pays for moving the plane?

Regardless of cost, I wouldn't fly my airplane to a non-local shop for a pre-buy. If I was just moving it locally (say within 30 miles), I wouldn't charge the buyer for fuel. But I'd also make sure I did my own homework on the local shop I'd be moving it to before I agreed to let them touch it.

    Forgetting to switch tanks

It's not uncommon to intentionally run tanks dry. I've done it a lot in various airplanes (Bellanca Super Viking, Twin Bonanza, regular Bonanza, various PA28 models, etc.). It's really a non-event. Part of the certification standards are restarts after fuel starvation. If I'm in a PA28 and...
