Alec Baldwin shoots and kills cinematographer.

He wouldn't want me on the jury. There is no such thing as an empty gun. Treat everyone as if it is loaded. Never point one at anything or anybody you don't wish to destroy or kill. Keep all firearms pointed in a safe direction. I know, I'm a touch anal on this subject, but then I'm a...

[NA] Why are 1970's Honda motorcycles so expensive?

Are modern bikes as rough running as the old Honda 350s? Those suckers fired the cylinders 180 degrees apart, then waited another 540 degrees of crankshaft rotation to start the cycle again. My old CL-175, on the other hand, fired its two cylinders 360 degrees apart and was comparatively smooth.

Taking the Dipstick out after a flight?

Law of primacy. My original CFI did not teach me to do this 22 years ago and he was a former airline pilot. I haven't worried about it and the club hasn't lost a motor due to water in the oil as long as I've been a member (22 years). YMMV.

I flew a Cessna 162 Skycatcher LSA across the USA alone ... and it was awesome

Looks like a fun flight. I need to get back to the Museum of Flight as they have some new exhibits.

Cessna 172H deal - Your thoughts?

And when you are finished you'll still have a C172H. Smooth running engine, but gutless (at least the one I flew was)! I'd pass on this one.

Enterprise got my blood pressure up this morning

I will look again later. And I know what you mean about being cheaper to rent a fancy car. The last time we were in Hawaii (earlier this year) I rented a Jeep Wrangler from Hertz as it was the least expensive car to rent (and my preferred car on that island). It makes no sense at all.

Enterprise got my blood pressure up this morning

I'm going to check with some different vendors for our vacation in Hawaii after the first of the year. I've always used Hertz, but they are acting like I'm buying the car, rather than renting it. They want roughly twice what they did earlier this year - over $4000 for 4 weeks. Ouch!!!

International airline flights as pax; planning

I always get the local currency at the local airport using my ATM card. Outside the US this typically gives me the best exchange rate. I visit countries often enough (really did before I retired) that I'd just keep the excess for the next trip. I do like the suggestion of using most of the...

    Do Insurance Companies Use Failures?

My insurance is through our club, so that will bias my answer, however... I failed my first instrument ride. The examiner did it fair and square. I got too low on a non-precision approach. Did not have that problem on the re-ride. Have I ever had a question about it from an insurance...

    Thinking about a Bus/RV

Sounds like my great grandfather's approach to building a house. If 1 2x4 would do, use 2. Overbuilt, but they lasted a long time.

    Tesla Model 3 - Finally.

Just a quick update - We've now got just over 9000 miles on the Ford. It's been across the state3 times in the last month and a half between my high school class's 50th reunion (delayed 2 years), my wife's high school class 50th reunion (yes, I married my high school sweetheart) and my...

    Artemis 1 Launch

I remember watching on TV when STS-1 took off. I asked one of the other engineers at Martin Marietta Denver Aerospace if he knew what a drag race between the shuttle and Saturn V would look like (I was in high school when Apollo 11 landed). He said that the shuttle would, indeed, leap off the...

    Clowns In Town ...

The 2 "TFRs" over the mouse house (Florida and California) have nothing to do with "security" and everything to do with stopping banner towers from flying over the parks to get their client's message across to the people on the ground. They should never have been granted by congress.

Enterprise got my blood pressure up this morning

When I was working for a living my employer had a similar plan with Hertz, and we could use it for personal travel, as well. Saved me about 50% from their regular rates. One of the very few things I miss about working. Very few!

International airline flights as pax; planning

I've been to Europe a number of times over the past 50 years. CDG was most recently in 2018. Too old to be of any use to you for this trip. However, there have been some suggestions that I agree with completely. Get Global Entry. It will save you time coming back into the US. And as I have...

    Lost Motivation and Interest

I've been flying for just over 20 years and NONE of the emergency equipment in my flight bag has ever been needed. May it stay that way! But I'll continue to carry it, just in case. As far as Cabela's goes, back when I was working for a living they had the bad taste to build one of their new...

    New to the POA Hangar

How do you mistake a paving material for a location on an airport? Of course, I've been wondering that about the idiots on the news for years, but what do I know?

    Hello from Kitsap

Welcome to POA. There are a few of us who are based in the great Pacific Northwe(s)t. KOLM for me.

How to rid my hangar from swallows?

The only bird strike I've had was at KOLM back when I was a student pilot. 2000, IIRC. He zigged when he should have zagged. Didn't hurt the airplane as I think I got him with the prop. If you do that often enough it should reduce the population a bit.

Enterprise got my blood pressure up this morning

We rented from Hertz in St Thomas USVI in June. It was the worst pile of junk I had ever rented from anyone. I expected to have a "discussion" with the attendant when I returned it due to an awful noise it was making in reverse, but he didn't say anything so I didn't either.
