All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

These are the right questions to ask, because the county’s “cost” argument seems nonsensical to me. The county encourages high dollar tourism draws like this because they bring revenues into the county’s tax coffers. The so-called expense of GA planes landing during such an event are a fiction...

All three Las Vegas airports will charge a $3,000 landing fee during F1 races

Lawyer here though not in aviation law, and I think you’re on the right track. There are federal regulations, statutes, and possibly even constitutional restrictions that might apply here. And then there are Nevada state laws and Nevada state constitutional issues. Lawyers who knows this stuff...

My epic flight through Glacier Ntl Park and landing at 58S Whitefish, MT

Jim, I've followed your videos on youtube for a while and didn't realize you posted here too. I live in Phoenix but am from Tucson so I've loved seeing your Tucson flights. Cool stuff!

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

In fact, I don’t recall seeing a single airplane listed by a broker for which the broker refused to provide transparent access to all logs, digitally. Most of them prefer linking the logs right on the ad so you don’t even have to ask.

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

Like others suggest, there are a few free options for shareable cloud drives. But also, since the log books truly are worth $25,000 or so of the value of your plane, having a cloud backup of them is an awesome idea. It’s even worth paying a monthly fee to Dropbox etc. But at a minimum your asset...

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

Market your plane however you want. Your choice. Speaking as a buyer: Without proof of complete log books, your plane is automatically worth at least $25,000 less than the listed price in your ad, because you're probably missing a log book, or else there's a mechanical problem revealed in the...

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

And likewise, I did say only that "the majority" were not forthright. Some of the sellers I dealt with were very candid and honest. My favorites were the ones who intentionally took close-up shots of nicks and scratches and hail damage, etc. I don't understand why all sellers don't do this...

This awesome airplane is not right for you if you need to see the logbooks

First time buyer here who just closed on a plane 6 days ago, woo hoo. I learned a lot from this experience, because I rejected about 10 planes before closing on this one. Of the 10, 3 went to prebuy before I learned of unacceptable flaws. (Of the 3, 1 I actually didn't have to pay for because my...

How do you mitigate the risks of mechanic error?

I am about to become an airplane owner. So to keep myself humble and at a healthy state of nervousness, I look up NTSB reports now and then on the plane type I am interested in, and found one in California where an A&P mechanic conducted an annual on a Cessna 182, didn't install the throttle...

A&P IA needed for a pre-buy in SoCal (near ONT)

Hi all. I am buying a Cessna 182 located near Ontario, California. Every major outfit that I'm told has a good reputation is unable to schedule me for a pre-buy inspection for months out. They're all booked out. Therefore, my alternative seems to be to find any smaller outfit or even free-lance...

Cost questions for: ADSB-Out, autopilot, and interior upgrade?

I intend to become IFR rated but will not fly in IFR conditions (except to maintain currency).

Cost questions for: ADSB-Out, autopilot, and interior upgrade?

Y’all are great. Thank you. I’m thinking to pass on this one. My heart is set on a 182 anyway.

Cost questions for: ADSB-Out, autopilot, and interior upgrade?

I'm looking at this 1968 Cardinal. Seller claims ADSB-Out will cost $2,500. Does that sound right? Also, that interior looks junked. How much to make it nicer for flying my wife and kid around? I'm guessing it has no autopilot. What does that cost? Anyone see anything else? I am a...

Microsoft Flight Simmer takes a real flight lesson

Update: After taking a break from lessons for the Arizona summer, I am back at it. During this pause, I signed up for PilotEdge and used that heavily for about 4 months and continuing, with Microsoft Flight Simulator. (Total cost for this: about $140 for those 4 months). The results have been...

Dan Gryder is tweaking the NTSB

In a recent video he spoke to his viewers about the personal life of a CFI who posts a lot of Youtube instructional content, regarding that CFI's marital status, his relationships, etc. Having no idea if any of his claims are true, what in the hell does this have to do with aviation? Completely...

Best way to get sharp on ATC com comprehension

I'm a current PPL student and also a "PilotEdge" student, and will echo the recommendation. It seems crazy to me that student pilots don't use PE routinely. It's about $20 a month. Apparently the plan for me if I hadn't discovered PE (thanks to a fellow user here btw) was to spent some $200 an...

Should I buy, join a flying club, co-own, or keep waiting?

Your responses have been super helpful, thank you everyone. My brain has been trying to organize the pros and cons of these options, so seeing them listed out here accomplished that. The poll results probably lean toward what I'm thinking at the moment: the plurality winning option at 38% is to...

Should I buy, join a flying club, co-own, or keep waiting?

Since I've found a kindred spirit I will obviously have to post a pic shortly. Our big baby is a St. Bernard. The other two girls who boss him around are a 15-pound bichon-poodle and a 25 pound jack russell/italian greyhound mix (all 3 are rescues). I assume that one day, in a big enough plane...
